The ITU closes the Schoeman case

The International Triathlon Federation has published on its website a statement explaining the situation

After the investigation opened by the ITU and the IOC about the publication in some media of the possible case of doping that involved Henri Schoeman  for an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) that would have occurred during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, all parties involved want to declare that this case is not considered a violation of anti-doping rules.

The management of the results was in accordance with the rules of the AMA and the process concluded that no AAF was registered. As a result, the case was not considered or resulted in an anti-doping rule violation.

ITU wants to thank and thank Mr. Henri Schoeman, who has cooperated fully, providing information to both the IOC and the ITU during this research process, since the information was publicly disclosed.

ITU President Marisol Casado said: “We are extremely pleased that this investigation is completely closed and delete the name of an athlete who has cooperated, supported and has always helped the ITU and the IOC to clarify these circumstances, even under a lot of pressure. The professionalism and clarity shown by Henri Schoeman should be an example for any athlete who can face a situation like this. At ITU we strongly believe in clean sport, because that is what makes our sport and our athletes great."

ITU Director Anti-Doping Leslie Buchanan said: “Every year, the ITU devotes its time, effort, energy and a substantial budget to our anti-doping mission, and we will continue to do so.. Our organization is absolutely committed to eradicating the use of prohibited substances and methods in triathlon, but the ITU is also fully committed to protecting our athletes in cases like this."

The IOC is investigating the circumstances in which information about Henri Schoeman was publicly disclosed and is taking steps to protect the confidential information of the athletes. The IOC strongly condemns and will prosecute any illegal attempt to reveal confidential information.
