The ITU welcomes new Federations

162 federations are part of the ITU

 

 

Following the Executive Committee meeting, ITU has announced that six new National Federations have joined its family: Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leona, Botswana, Djibouti, and Somalia.

“This has been an important year for Africa,” he said. Marisol Married, President of the ITU and Member of the IOC. "The President of the African Triathlon Union, Mr. Ahmed Nasser has worked hard in recent seasons to realize the growth of our sport and now we see the fruits of his effort. In my recent trips to Africa I have seen the enthusiasm and sporting talent present in so many countries. Our job now is to support their development. "

In addition to these six National Federations, Senegal and Armenia were approved as National Federations in the annual ITU Congress held in September, so the total amount of National Federations is increased to 162. Algeria and Kyrgyzstan were also approved as temporary Federations.

 "The last few months in the international sports world have reinforced more than ever the importance of pro activity in pursuit of a solid and transparent governance," said Casado. "At ITU we are committed to ensuring that triathlon continues to be a sport with clear policies and that it offers fair play." 

Changes to the competition regulations were also decided at the Committee Meeting and will be announced shortly.
