The UCI authorizes disc brakes

The UCI (International Cycling Union) has authorized the use of disc brakes by the international peloton from next season.

To carry it out, the UCI will modify the appropriate articles so that the professionals can use them during 2016, and that it serves as a test bench for a possible final homologation in 2017.

The international federation reaches this decision after consulting with all the parties involved, teams, cyclists, mechanics, organizers, and the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industries (WFSGI).

Trek professional cyclist Markel Irizar, was one of the first to use this system in the race (the World Tour teams could use it in two races of his choice during two months of the last season) highlighted the important improvement in braking, despite of the increase of weight that supposes for the bicycle.

Once it is homologated in cycling, we will soon see them in the high level triathlon competitions.
