Europe will host the Grand Final of the World Series at 2019

The Swiss city of Lausanne has been chosen to host the 30 anniversary of the ITU World Championship

The 2019 season will be pre-Olympic and the athletes will be competing for Olympic places, so what better place for the athletes to do so than in the Olympic capital itself?

“The decision was difficult, you had to define yourself by Edmonton or Lausanne, two exceptional cities due to their characteristics. We thank both of them for their desire to host the Grand Final. With the appointment of the 2019 ITU Grand Final venue, we now have confirmations for the World Championship races for three years, a fact that puts the triathlon in a fantastic position. ” commented Marisol Casado, President of the ITU and Member of the IOC.

Lausanne has experience in the world of triathlon since 1998 when the Swiss city welcomed an ITU Triathlon World Championship event for the first time. Later, Lausanne won the tender to organize again an event of this category in 2006, in addition to the Sprint 2011 World Championship.

Lausanne has hosted two World Mixed Relay Championships and World Cup, European and European Championships events.

The event will culminate the 2019 ITU World Championship season where the World, Youth, Sub23, and Paratriathlon Champions will be crowned

The first ITU Triathlon World Championships took place in Avignon, France at 1989, so the ITU will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary in Lausanne.

In 2009, the championship was modified, expanding the usual race held in one day to an exciting series of various tests that culminates in a Grand Final. Athletes earn points throughout the season and those who win the overall ranking are crowned ITU Triathlon World Champions.

The ITU 2016 Grand Final will take place at (11-18 in September) where thousands of athletes of age categories will join the elite, Sub23, youth and paratriathletes competing for world titles.

The official dates of the 2019 ITU Grand Triathlon World Final will be confirmed shortly
