Madrid epicenter of the National Triathlon

Madrid is once again dressed up for another year, hosting a top-level international event, with the dispute this coming weekend of the European Cup of Triathlon ETU and ITU Paratriathlon International Event.

 

 

In turn, in this same framework Madrid will also kick off the popular YOSITRI triathlon circuit. In total, the event will bring together over two days more than 2000 participants, in what is expected to be the great triathlon party in the Spanish capital.

At the presentation ceremony held this afternoon on the esplanade of the Casa de Campo lake, Ian Howard and Kris Piatzkoski attended on behalf of the European Triathlon Federation (ETU); the president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI), José Hidalgo; Gerardo Mediavilla (head of sports communication of the Madrid City Council) and the president of the Madrid Triathlon Federation, Virginia Sanz.

The representative of the City Council welcomed all participants in which he described the "triathlon party", thanking the commitment of all those involved in the development of this event in which Madrid turns over year after year.

Hidalgo has referred to the historic "commitment to this test" in which he is a pioneer due to his firm commitment to "integration and sustainability". Likewise, the president of the FETRI has pointed out that the event marked the “beginning of YOSITRI, a circuit that was born with the vocation of facilitating the initiation” of all those who wish to learn more about triathlon.

For her part, the president of the Madrid Federation highlighted the great “luck of Madrid for having a test of this level”. While Ian Howards (member of the ETU Executive Committee) emphasized that the greatness of the Madrid headquarters, thanking especially the "Madrid City Council for making this possible" and highlighting the role of the FETRI as the engine of triathlon at the world, as a leader in the development of triathlon ”.

The triathletes were also present with them Anna Godoy (silver medal in the Melilla European Cup 2015), Antonio Serrat (second classified in the Melilla European Cup) and the paratriathlete Rakel Mateo (winner in PT2 in the 2015 ITU World Paratriathlon Event in Buffalo City and in Madrid 2014).

For Anna Godoy, who lived in Madrid for three years, the test will have a very special tint, with the triathlete affirming that she is "very eager to compete for a circuit that I know by heart". While the debutant Antonio Serrat arrives with desire to "try to do the best possible". For Rakel Mateo, the event also marks the return to a scenario in which he began his international journey and which has fond memories. Mateo affirmed that "returning is always a pleasure".
