Mario Mola "I have fought from the beginning and I have had a great day facing the best triathlete in all of history"

The Mallorcan achieved the most important victory of his career by winning by four seconds to the world champion, Javier Gómez Noya.

 

 

Mario Mola he could not finish his participation in the World Triathlon Series 2015 better. The Mallorcan triathlete took the victory on the day of the grand final, in which the best triathletes in the world came together, to fight with more power than ever for the last points at stake. Only a combination could give him the world title: to be a champion in Chicago and that the leader of the classification, Javier Gómez Noya, did not climb the podium.

With that objective, Mario was fully concentrated from the first moment of his career, making the best swimming sector he has done this year. Mola left the water in no less than sixth place, ahead of the big favorites, in an unequivocal signal that showed the strength with which he left to compete today. 

In the cycling sector he also managed to connect with a first group in which there were other important triathletes who played a lot today, such as the Frenchman Vincent Luis, and although they tried to open a gap, finally the great chasing group led by Javier Gómez Noya He soon chased them.

With sunny skies in Chicago and on a circuit that forced continuous starts and stoppages, the group stayed together until the arrival to the second transition. The first kilometers of race were going to be key and immediately the imposed rhythm was very high. While in the early stages some triathletes tried to gain prominence, soon the strong pace of Mario Mola in this sector of the race on foot, where usually has the best partial of all competitors, became diabolical. Only Javier Gómez Noya, giving the best of himself, was able to withstand the constant sprint to which both submitted. From kilometer three it was already clear that the victory today was going to be played between them. 

The first attacks came from Javier Gomez Noya, who on three occasions, with strong changes of pace, tried to release Mario. The first triathletes who chased them were already rolling more than 30 seconds. Mario endured each of the Galician attacks until finally he, a kilometer from the finish line, was launched alone to the title, in a very tactical and thoughtful attack, and the victory was his with 4 seconds ahead of Gomez Not now. Mario completed the 10 km of running, according to the organization itself, in 28 minutes and 59 seconds.

After crossing the finish line, and waiting for the arrival of his great rival, both merged in a hug full of sportsmanship and Mario, with a gesture of courtesy, was the first to congratulate Gomez Noya for his fifth world title.

With this victory, Mario closed in the best possible way the achievement of the second place in the world for the second year in a row, having also been third in 2013. Three years in a row in the final podium of the World Triathlon Series that add to his record a streak that very few triathletes have been able to harvest.

Mario Mola came to this final test after having won, as the best five results of the year, his first place in Abu Dhabi; the second position in Gold Coast; and the third in Yokohama, Hamburg and Edmonton. 

In addition the circumstance occurs that with the victory of today, added to its triumph in Abu Dhabi, it has taken the victory in the test that opened the calendar of the World Triathlon Series in 2015 and in which it closes it. A demonstration of its regularity and sensational state of form.
