Miriam Casillas, fifth in the Sub23 World Championship

Great level of Miriam Casillas getting a brilliant fifth place during his participation in the World Championship Sub23, celebrated this September 18 in Chicago. An appointment in which the also Spanish Camila Alonso has reached the Top-20.

Due to the adverse weather forecasts, the women's competition saw its initial distance trickled, developing into sprint distance.

The Mexican Lizeth Rueda was the first to leave Chicago's legendary Lake Michigan after performing the 750 m swim, with Miriam Casillas at 24 seconds and Camila Alonso at 47 seconds of the leaders. Then came the 20 km cyclists who passed through the center of the "City of Wind".

 

 

Casillas did not bend and hooked with the thirteen front platoon. During the four laps of the sector, the pacense would remain well established in the first seats of the headboard block. After the leaders small persecuting nuclei were formed, in the third of which Alonso was established with an approximate disadvantage of 45 seconds.

The segment ran without major oscillations in the head, with Casillas placed at the front of the contest. The 16 squad accessed the T2 jointly. The New Zealander was the first to set out for the race on foot, with Audrey Merle following her trail. An impressive Casillas, was the third to leave the T2 and started an excellent last sector of 5 km of race. While Alonso left more than a minute of the first classified, in 17ª position.

Casillas made a first masterful progress progressing to second place. However, at the end of the first of the two laps, the French duo of Merle and Leonie Periault took over the lead, with the Portuguese Melanie Santos occupying the third place. The Spanish was somewhat behind, but struggled with claw and after a hard struggle and after two laps of running race, managed to progress to the final fifth place.

While the French were fighting for victory in an intense final sprint, which fell on Merle's side. Its shareholder Periault occupied the second place and the Portuguese Santos reached the third place.

On the other hand, Camila Alonso managed to qualify in an outstanding 19ª square, in its premiere in a Sub23 World Championship. Splendid final for the Spanish Casillas, after offering a great display throughout the test.
