The Mixed Relay Series ITU is born, which will add points for Tokyo 2020

The ITU announced yesterday the launch of the new Mixed Relay Series, with two events at 2018.

The series will make its official debut in Nottingham the June 7, just before the World Triathlon Series to be held in Leeds (UK).

Athletes will have another chance in Leedsscore points for the Olympic Qualification Ranking in the category of Mixed Relay, plus Edmonton, as well as in World Relay Mixed Championships in Hamburg.

The mixed relay series will help increase the interest of athletes and spectators in this new addition to the Olympic Program of Tokyo 2020: the mixed relay of Triathlon.

Olympic qualification home

Although Olympic qualification criteria are still subject to the approval of the IOC Executive Board in February of 2018, it is expected that start the 11 for May of 2018 and end on the same day in 2020.

There will Various ways to earn points for Tokyo 2020 and get one of the 55 positions available for men and 55 for women. With the addition to the above qualification criteria, there will be mixed relay events that will count towards the Olympic classification.

Since we have mixed relay added to the Olympic program, and with the Tokyo 2020 debut in mind, we want to put pressure on all athletes and, above all, all national federations to join us in the series and compete for a place that allows the teams to fight for another Olympic medal.

The mixed relay is an event that gives the sport something very important: a sense of teamwork. But most importantly, it is an event that demonstrates that women and men can compete together, but that both are equally important to the success of the team. And I'm sure all those teams will shine in Nottingham in the Serie debut ".

The Mixed Relay Series will premiere the June 7 for the opening of the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham. The event is scheduled for the June 7 and will witness some of the best triathlon quartets in the world, just two days before heading north to face the ITU Triathlon World Series in Leeds.

The five mixed continental relay championships will also give points in the Olympic qualification rankings.
