Pontevedra will host the 2019 Multisport World Championships

Pontevedra has been designated by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) as the venue for the 2019 Multideport World Championships.

The Multisport World Championships will be developed over two exciting weekends and will be formed by the duathlon, long distance triathlon, aquatlon and triathlon cros. The great multisport party will allow the participation of athletes in various tests of different modalities.

The president of the ITU and member of the IOC, Marisol Married has stated that "the creation of the Multideporte World Championships has been one of our most successful decisions in terms of receiving requests to host these events." "The organization of these competitions has generated great interest, with three cities competing to celebrate the 2019 edition of the event and with the 2017 and 2018 venues already confirmed. This is a very encouraging sign that the triathlon is moving in the right direction and our growth continues its expansion".

The Galician city has extensive experience in the organization of sporting events, hosting in recent years numerous international events, both triathlon and duathlon. These include the successful celebration of the Duathlon World Championships in 2014, the 2011 European Triathlon Championship and the three Premium European Cups that the city of the Rías Baixas has received.

For his part, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores (Mayor of Pontevedra) has expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, noting that "like every time a great triathlon competition has taken place in Pontevedra, we are delighted to welcome this huge family in our city . We will do, as always, everything possible because athletes enjoy Pontevedra in all its dimensions, both natural conditions, as the historic center and the river. The whole city will turn to this world competition, keep it for sure. "

José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, has been grateful "for this designation, since Pontevedra has a strong link with our sport, as evidenced by the celebration in recent years of numerous national and international competitions. A continuous bet that has turned the city into a sporting reference. Pontevedra is a venue that feels and breathes the values and challenges of triathlon. "

Previously, at 2017 the Canadian city of Penticton will be responsible for organizing the first Multisport World Championships in history, with Odense (Denmark) taking over from the 2018 edition.
