All ready for the first edition of the Ironman 70.3 Manta

Next Sunday 9 of August the first edition of the IM 70.3 of Manta in Ecuador is disputed.

It will be the first test of the IM circuit that is celebrated in this Latin American country. To date, there was only evidence of IM and IM 70.3 in Brazil and Chile, Ecuador being the third South American country to host IM tests (Later there will also be IM 70.3 careers in Uruguay and Argentina).

One of the people who has worked the most for the celebration of IM 70.3 in Manta is Marialuz Arellano, general director of the event. She is also one of the best age groups in America, being Finisher in Kona several times. For his part Andre Lapar is the career director. Both together with all the technical staff, volunteers and institutions have achieved for Ecuador the possibility of hosting an IM 70.3 circuit test. The illusion aroused by this test led to the rapid exhaustion of the 1500 registrations that were available, and thanks to the great demand it was decided to expand the seats (According to data from the IM website there are more than 2000 registered)

One-lap 1,9km swimming will be held in the Pacific Ocean, a water temperature around 24ºC is expected, so it will almost certainly walk without a wetsuit. The cycling segment will take the triathletes along the coasts of Manta, entering the beautiful natural landscapes of the province of Manabí.

The route offers a relatively flat path with some slides, so a fast cycling is foreseen. It will be one lane, 45km one way to Crucita beach and return by the same road in a circuit completely closed to traffic. Finally the race on foot, will be made to 2 laps to total 21km by the coast of the Bay of Manta, a flat and fast route that will have its goal next to the beach of Manta.

In the male category the main favorite to victory is the British Tim Don, world champion in 2006 and current champion of IM Mallorca and IM 70.3 of Brasilia and St. George. Afterwards the New Zealander aspire to the podium Braden Currie and the Chilean Rodrigo Sepúlveda, in addition to the local Giovanny Marmol who will compete with the extra motivation to do it in his native country.

In the female category, the main favorite is the American Lauren Goss, current champion of IM 70.3 of St. Croix, although a very close competition is foreseen, the British Laura SiddallThe Chilean Valentina Carvallo and the rest of Americans aspire to the podium and even victory.

On the other hand we want to highlight the age groups (in total there are 1500 registered) that face this competition with enthusiasm in Ecuador. Among them there are many venues that make their debut at Ironman 70.3 and it will be a very special day for them to do it in their country, Ecuador. Within the triathletes age groups we want to highlight two very well-known and well-loved women in Latin America and especially in their native Ecuador.

One is María Teresa Guerrero (Known as "La Flaca Guerrero"), she was a television presenter for more than 15 years and is one of the most popular people in Ecuador (she has more than 1 million followers on Twitter) not only for her work in the media. communication but also to be an example for his love for triathlon, for the diffusion that gives our sport and the good energy that radiates for people to start and practice triathlon, everything, as she humbly states, "from my situation, as an age group ", although we want to emphasize that she is very good in her group, being several times top5 and qualifying for the 70.3 World Championship in Austria.

On the other hand we also want to highlight Erika Segale (both are very friends) another woman very well known and loved in Ecuador and Latin America. Erika worked for years in television and radio, is a Master Coach and fitness coach as well as a triathlete in age groups. Erika, like La Flaca inspire a model of healthy life and encourage everyone, especially women in their theory of "if you can", are an example of love for triathlon, sport which above all stand out the ability to excel and also the fun offered by the three disciplines. Both Erika and Mª Teresa are very happy and excited to be able to play in Ecuador, in their homeland the Ironman 70.3 in Manta.
