"I have a great team behind me, great brands that support us, the best coach and good teammates. I can not ask for more. I just have to give everything every day and enjoy my passion. "

Weeks after his victory in the Ironman of Maastrich in the Netherlands, we have interviewed the Galician triathlete Saleta Castro so you can tell us about your competition in Limburg and what your next goals are.

Hello Saleta, good morning. First congratulate you for your triumph in Maastricht, despite being a very young triathlete are already several seasons that you have been competing in the Ironman circuit and achieved a well-deserved prize. Could you give us a brief summary of your career in the Netherlands?

I had a good swim, I even did my best time since Ironman and I really did not expect to get out of the water so close to Kate Comber to just 29 '' since in the IM of Lanzarote 2'30 '' came out in front of me.

When I left the T1 I got in first position and decided to make the first lap of 90km at a good pace to try to gain an advantage that will allow me the last 40km of the bike to relax and get to the marathon. And so it was the last bike 40km I took advantage of to eat, drink well and conserve strength, trusting to have a great day running.

I got off with an 2 lead but when I started running I felt really good. I spent the half marathon in 1h32 'and I thought I could beat my record in that circuit of 3h04' but at km 28-30 I started having quadriceps cramps and it was a real ordeal to reach the goal.

I felt good and I wanted to run faster but every time my feet touched the ground I felt knives in my legs, so until the last two kilometers I did not see myself winning. Finally I got it with a time of 3h24 '.

Your coach Luc Van Lierde has been a key player in this time to be able to make that leap in quality. What has changed in these last two years? What could you highlight about Luc as your coach?

What I emphasize the most is perseverance and patience. We go slowly but without pause. He analyzes everything and takes the trainings very well programmed and what I like the most is that he makes some perfect shots for the competitions with me. When he tells me something is fulfilled and hence my blind trust in him.

What has also changed in this season to be able to run with the Itzu TriTeam team to be doing on your own as in previous years?

Now I am 100% overturned in training and taking care of myself to reach the best competitions ever. Before also, but having to find sponsors, travel and having to organize everything ... many times in training I was not at 100% or did not rest well at night because I had a thousand head.

Now I feel really professional, I have a great team behind, great brands that support us, the best coach and good teammates. I can not ask for more. I just have to give everything every day and enjoy my passion.

And the next short and medium term objectives?

Well I'll be in Ironman 70.3 from Cascais in Portugal, but the recovery after Maastricht is being slow as my muscles ended up very broken and I had never felt like this.

After Cascais we will prepare another Ironman for the end of the year, but we still do not know if Malaysia or Cozumel. These tests from September would already score for Hawaii 2018. That is the big goal of next year, BACK TO KONA :).
