The super papás of the Spanish triathlon

In the following article we want to show a little more about five of the Spanish professional triathlon dads: Eneko Llanos, Carlos Lopez, Víctor del Corral, Gustavo Rodríguez and Miquel Blanchart.

We have asked each one of them about the age of their child, how they combine their training with the care of their children and what advice they would give to parents and moms who want to start in triathlon or because they recommend triathlon for their children.

We have a two-year-old son The mother also trains, competes and works so we take turns throughout the day. The normal thing is that I do an early session, then I take care of Jon while she does her training and when she finishes I go to do a second session. In the afternoon, Ruth will do another second training session if it's her turn. Normally two days a week we have the help of my parents who take care of Jon while Ruth and I do a long training session.

To the parents who want to start, I tell them that it is a matter of organizing well, there are always ways to take time out to train. In these situations it is important to concentrate on the quality of the training and make good use of the little time available.

My case is a little different. Before being a dad, I went and still am the legal guardian of my sister. She with 13 years and I with 24. David has recently completed 5.

My day to day is a bit of chaos between working, training and family. No day is the same. During the week the trainings are less than desired and of less duration. Especially now in winter. At work I do not have a schedule but nobody takes me between 7h and 10h a day.

At home I only manage to make dinner, the next day's meal and bathe David. I also have the great help of my sister who studies 3º of nursing and works as a laboratory technician, together we help. To parents who want to start in triathlon, I advise them not to get overwhelmed and enjoy their free time.

Víctor del Corral

I have a child of 2 years and 4 months. The way to reconcile with my wife depends a little on the training I have, but usually I leave it in the nursery in the morning and I go to train. The 17h is usually picked up by my wife and then in the afternoon, it depends on the day but normally on the 18h, when I have finished training, we are already together.

For dads and moms who want to start their children in triathlon personally I think that what is important when they are so small is that they play and try all kinds of sports and activities to find the one they like and fill them. Obviously I would like him to do some sports for the values that I consider that this can bring him.

Miquel Blanchart

I have a boy named Teo, and I really feel very lucky for how good he is, I think I'll never get to thank him for how easy the task of first-time parents is putting us. The next December 25 will do 6 months and will already be in the 8 kilitos.

I must say and thank (and for the record that I am not a lazy at home) that my wife, when she is still out of work, is in charge of practically everything. After parties we will have to organize ourselves so that my day to day will be, approximately:

6-8h Swimming

8: 30-10: 00 Be with Teo.

10-13: 00 Cycling

13-17: 00 Be with Teo

17-20: 00 Athletics and / or gym

20-21: 30 Being with the family

21: 30 Everyone in bed.

To the dads and moms who want their children to do triathlon, I tell them that I would love for all the children to do it, but mainly, and I think that like all parents, all I want is for them to be the happiest child in the world. world, whatever I do.

For now we still have little baggage in the facet of daddies ... We have a girl of 3 months and a half

The way to combine in the care right now, being so tiny and breastfeeding, is still quite dependent on the mother. The truth is that we are very lucky since since she was a little girl she sleeps very well and lets us rest. Right now in the morning we take the opportunity to leave the girl with the grandparents and make a quick escape to the pool.

We eat and then I have to train in the afternoon. When I arrived, if Aida did not go for a swim in the morning, I stayed with the girl and she went out to run a little, although at the moment more in the sport / health plan

To give advice ... I do not know if I am already in a position to give advice as a father, but as a person who has been linked to sport all my life, I could assure you that sport is one of the best ways to acquire a series of values that will be of great help throughout life (effort, companionship, acquisition of healthy habits, sacrifice ...)
