All prepared for the Long Course Weekend Mallorca

The Long Course Weekend Mallorca has been officially presented and will be held from today until Sunday in Alcúdia

Yesterday was officially presented the inaugural edition of the Long Course Weekend Mallorca, a sporting event that is celebrated in Alcúdia from today Friday 3 to Sunday 5 of November. It is a multisport event that lasts three days, where athletes have to swim on Friday, ride a bike on Saturday and run on Sunday. There are many distances and options in which to participate each day, and a special recognition in the form of a fourth medal for those athletes capable of taking part daily in the long distance segment that gives its name to the competition: 3.800 m of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42.195 m running.

Between the three days of competition there are already registered 1.200 participants, and the Long Course Weekend starts today with the Swim Day to the 9AM in the harbor bay of Alcúdia. In the afternoon from the 16h a race for children is held, the Kids Beach Run.

The Long Course Weekend was presented yesterday at the Hotel Zafiro Palace in Alcúdia, with the presence of the athletes Omar Tayara and two only athletes who have completed all editions of LCW Wales, Nicki Rees and Stephen Rogers. The event was attended by Toni Mir Llabrés, Mayor of Alcúdia, Joan Gaspar Vallori, Alcúdia Tourism Councilor, Cosme Bonet, Minister of Economics and Hisenda of the Consell de Mallorca, and the head of Tourism Consell de Mallorca, of the Consell de Mallorca, Maria José Aguiló, manager of the Alcúdia Hotel Association, Antonio Homar, commercial director of Zafiro Hotels and David Thompson, director of the Long Course Weekend race and manager of Kumulus, the organizing company.

All representatives of local institutions have highlighted the enormous future that this sporting event has in Alcúdia and its projection as a catalyst for tourism in Mallorca outside the peak season.

Saturday is the "Bike Day"That starts the 8h20 with a cycling race of 86 or 172km, with the roads closed to traffic and with the option to go in the peloton. To end the weekend, the November 5 Sunday is the "Run Day"From the 8h45, in which athletes can choose between running 5, 10, 21 or 42 km. Only the finishers of the three days in the greater distances will be able to choose to the fourth medal that grants them the status of "Legends" and first 'finishers' of the Long Course Weekend Mallorca.

Among the more than 1.000 athletes, there is a very high participation of women (40% of total registrations), with up to 16 countries represented. An 46% of those registered are British, while Spaniards are 37% and Germans are 12%. The average age of the 'type participant' is 42 years, and he is accompanied to Mallorca by his entire family (3-4 persons).

Long Course Weekend is organized by Kumulus, with the invaluable cooperation of the Ajuntament d'Alcúdia.
