The main favorites for the victory have been present at the pre-race press conference.

The Europa Palace has hosted the first titans fight ahead of Sunday's event. It has been a duel between friends, without sweat or smell of gel, a battle where good humor has reigned and where both have wished for good luck.

The list of candidates to take the victory of the eleventh edition of Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon It is the most extensive of the last years. There will be many who will leave the beach of Landa with the intention of winning, and many of them have been quoted at the Europa Palace before the media. On stage we have been able to see Iván Álvarez, winner in the Full in the last edition; Alejandro Santamaría, authentic ambassador of the test; Brooke Brown, winner of the latest editions; Levi Maxwell, the Australian that this year premieres in Vitoria; and two other specialists who will compete in the Half distance this year. Other triathletes to take into account in the full test are Carlos Aznar, Diego Paredes or the Portuguese Pedro Gomes.

In the medium distance test there will also be a nice duel, since in the starting line there are trialtetas of the size of Victor del Corral ,Miguel Ángel Fidalgo, Pablo Dapena, Emilio Aguayo, Erik Merino and the aforementioned Taylor Reid. In the women's test, Judith Corachan part with options, Helene Alberdi, Aintzane Argaiz ,o Sarah Lester among others.

Statements Press conference

Brooke Brown has been the first to take the floor and once again has shown that Vitoria-Gasteiz is still special to her. "My motivation is maximum for Sunday, I come prepared and very motivated to win again." The Canadian has ensured to be at a very high level of physical and motivation. "I want to keep feeling the taste of Vitoria-Gasteiz and I have prepared the race thoroughly, being one of the first races of the season for me."

Brown has served as hostess for his compatriot Taylor Reid, who encouraged him to participate. "It's a very special race, with a spectacular route and an incredible atmosphere, especially in the Plaza de España," he said he told Taylor. Among the hobbies for Sunday has said not to have any, "just try to be calm, well accompanied and of course enjoy the city."

Iván Álvarez, champion in 2016

Álvarez reminded everyone present that during all the days of this year he has remembered Vitoria and the victory he achieved. Memories, he said, that they have made their preparation much easier for the Sunday event. "I come well, strong, it's my main goal of the season and I'm able to win but always respecting all the rivals." To the question of the presenter of the act if it is better or worse than last year, Ivan has been clear. "I'm better than last year, better prepared, but the level is also higher."

Iván Álvarez has already made a whopping 20 full distance triathlon during his career. He is a methodical man, and as he has meticulously assured with all the details, maybe something manic. "If I do not go to bed the night before nine, I get very nervous. The day of the test I like to have everything prepared and I like to surround myself with people that transmit good vibes to me ".

Alejandro Santamaría, the ambassador

The Spaniard has once again made it clear that he is the true ambassador of the event and has once again praised the city and the test. "It's my big date of the season." Questioned by his seniority, Santamaría has made it clear that "I'm still very motivated and when I think of Triathlon Vitoria, I come up." Looking ahead to the July 9, in addition to being very motivated, Santamaría has made it clear that he is also very strong. "I've trained more than other years, with a lot of motivation and I think I'm in very good shape, both on the bike and running, although swimming will make it worse." This year will almost be its premiere since in Zarautz it could not finish by a fall.

He finished his speech remembering the Australian champion Mark Allen, who went to the Ironman without having competed before in any other race. "I come here to Mark Allen, Ironman champion for many years, without competing in advance."

For its part, the Australian Levi Maxwell will be released this year in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and in his appearance before the media did not want to disclose too much. "I fell recently and I do not know very well how I am physically" said Maxwell. About the test he has ensured that everything he has been told is positive. "Everything they have told me about this test is very good and I hope that the encouragement I receive from the public will help me overcome the pain."

Another of the debutants will be Taylor Reid, that will participate for the first time in TriVitoria, but that knows perfectly the Alava territory, since in 2013 it was training in Álava, preparing the Championship of its country that ended up winning.

The Canadian, of 25 years, has started the season very well and already knows what it is to get on the podium this year. "Two weeks ago I was second in Canada in an 70.3 test, in Quebeck, but since then I have not returned to the bike and I do not know how I am doing." Taylor has assured that he has no rituals for the big tests. "Before the crisis, coffee," he said, recalling that his bicycle has not yet arrived to compete on Sunday.

Judith Corachán

The Catalan has ensured that she feels very well in Euskadi and this year she has already achieved great positions in both Zarautz and Bilbao. In the Alava capital will not be the first time he competes, since he debuted in 2014, "but was not among the pros" he recalled. Three years later she returns as the main candidate for victory in the distance half. "I will try to make my career, pushing hard from the beginning, because where I get worse is in the race on foot." Judith Corachán is to reserve little, trying to make the most of the swimming and cycling test.

Yes with Cancer

Finally, Gabriel Rojo has taken the floor, in the name of Yes With Cáncer, the solidarity cause to which TriVitoria will lend its collaboration this year. Rojo, a member of the Association, has told his story. "Three years ago, in the middle of the chemotherapy process, I did my first triathlon and from then on everything began." This year three members of the association will participate in the test, to which they have been "enormously grateful".
