The seventh edition of the Doñana Challenge will have as main novelty the expansion of the cycling segment

The triathletes will have to travel ten more kilometers by bicycle and will cross the town of Trebujena for the first time

The seventh edition of the Doñana Challenge, long distance triathlon organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the next 24 in September, presents a series of novelties along the way, such as the expansion of the cycling segment from 90 to 100 kilometers, and the inclusion of Trebujena (Cádiz), for the first time, as one of the places of passage of the competition.

This extension of the cycling route will allow to gain in security, since the athletes will avoid going through stretches such as the canal road and the service road of the A-480. The segments of swimming and running will maintain the distances with respect to the last editions.

The Doñana Challenge, one of the hardest resistance events held annually in Andalusia, is a triathlon whose singularity is determined by the different order and distance of the disciplines and by crossing the Doñana National Park, during the third segment of the race, the race on foot. The triathletes, after cycling through part of the province of Cádiz and crossing the Guadalquivir, arrive at Punta de Malandar, on the opposite shore of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

The test starts with cycling, continues with swimming and ends with the race on foot

The test will start at Bajo de Guía Beach in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. During the neutralized start, the cyclist peloton will roll for several kilometers through the town that houses the mouth of the Guadalquivir. From this point will be the official start of the race in which 100 kilometers will be completed by bicycle, passing through Trebujena, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Rota, Chipiona and Sanlúcar de Barrameda again.

Once the bicycle section is finished, participants must swim 1 kilometer - 2,8 km. for relay teams - and cross the Guadalquivir River to Punta de Malandar. The mouth of the Guadalquivir has a curious mix of fresh and salt water tides, which make it very characteristic and spectacular for sports.

On the beach of Malandar, the last section will start, which will consist of a race on foot to be carried out entirely by Doñana, with 15 kilometers on the way and 15 on the way back. This segment has an added difficulty to the distance to travel, having to overcome dunes and adapt to the changing sands depending on the rising tide, always looking for the best surface to run.

Technical Conference

On Saturday 11 June Sanlúcar de Barrameda will host a day of triathlon technification as a parallel activity to Doñana Challenge 2016, which will conduct a series of theoretical and practical activities, in order to guide participants on issues such as nutrition , physical preparation and different specific notions about the test.

This conference, which is in its second edition, is aimed at the participants in the test and will be taught by experts and professional triathletes through different presentations. There will also be a training session with volunteers from the competition, in which theoretical and organizational aspects will be discussed, as well as coordination related to the sporting event.
