The Canary triathlete will fight in the next two races to become one of the best 10 triathletes in the world.

Vicente Hernández is doing a great season where he has managed two Top10 (Ninth in Leeds and tenth  Montreal) and is struggling to finish in the TOP 10 of the ITU Triathlon World Ranking, where currently occupies the twelfth place in the absence of two tests to finish the world circuit.

Tomorrow Vicente will participate in the eighth round of the circuit, in Stockholm, where you have many options to continue adding points to achieve your goal.

To know you a little more and know how you will face the next tests we have done an interview

This year the injuries are respecting you and you are able to compete with continuity, occupying the 12ª position in the Ranking of the WTS. Could you give us a brief summary of how the season is doing?

This year began with a situation that was not very encouraging, but I think that I have been gradually moving forward. I was injured in October of 2016 of a plantar fasciitis and I could not start running until the end of March of 2017. Not being able to make the base of the season on foot, is a problem and I had to do it later, taking the races I did during the first months as intense workouts that increased my fitness on foot.

Luckily, it did not stop me from swimming or doing a bike and in these disciplines I could do a good workout. I think my fitness has been increasing throughout the season and I have focused mainly on the World Triathlon Series without putting many other races on the calendar so I could spend the time separating them in training what was not Could during the winter.

Finally, I think I am close to my goal and I will continue with what I have left to try to achieve it.

In which races have you felt better competing this year?

Many times, the sensations do not correspond to the position that is achieved, since they influence many things in the races but, for example, in Leeds I felt good. There are usually no easy races or that they pass without suffering.

We try to go to the limit of our possibilities, although it sounds a little masochistic and surely the one who wins is the only one who, perhaps, has been able to save something. I have not won any, so it's easy to imagine how good it was, haha. It's a joke, I enjoy competing a lot and with what surrounds it.

What is your main goal in the 2 last WTS that are still to be played?

I would like to continue being in the TOP 10, but surely it is not enough, so if I got the top8, or better, I would be closer to reaching my goal.

And after the Rotterdam Grand Final, do you have decided to compete in any other race?

Yes, my idea is to do two or three more races. Careers that appeal to me and appeal to me.

You have been training under Carlos Prieto for several seasons and being a partner of Javier Gómez Noya. What has working together with them in this period of time contributed to you?

I have learned a lot with them, they are two great examples. From the way to focus on the day to day, how to manage a season or work for a goal. Javi is an athlete that I have always admired and Carlos a great coach. I'm having a great experience.

In recent months, the debate between the Sprint distance and the Olympic distance has been stoked, with rumors that in the next JJOO it could compete in Sprint distance. What do you think about it?

I think the next games will be Olympic distance too. Now with the inclusion of mixed relays there will be a different career profile and they can get along well.

It is a debate that will always be maintained, more for the televised theme than sports. Personally, I like both distances and relays and I enjoy them a lot.

As a good canary this question is "inevitable", since the Canary Islands, specifically in Lanzarote are disputed two of the most important tests of Europe in Medium and Long Distance, the Club La Santa Ironman 70.3 of Lanzarote and the Ironman of Lanzarote. In the medium term, do you plan to try a medium distance test?

Yes, I would like to debut this year in the middle distance if I do not have any problem in the form of an injury that prevents me from doing so. Probably one of the three races that I will do for pleasure after finishing the World Cup.

With what aids and sponsors does a triathlete like you who is fighting to be world top10 count?

I have the support of private sponsors and institutions that trust me and my work. I enjoy what I do and they are a fundamental part. It is a good time to thank them for their trust.

We share a vision of professional sport and the way forward, it is a pleasure to go together. They are: Canary Oil, Deporte Lagunero, Specialized, Tenerife 2030, Orca, Lava and AC Osteopathy. You can learn more about them on my website: www.vicentehernandeztri.com

Thank you very much, it has been a pleasure to share this little bit with you and we wish you the best in Stockholm and Rotterdam.

Many thanks to you. Hopefully we can celebrate all the joys of the Spaniards.
