Víctor del Corral "I'm going to fight again to go to Kona"

Currently the recovery of the injury is very advanced so you may soon be training at 100%

The Catalan triathlete Víctor del Corral He was one of the Spanish professionals who competed the most in the middle and long distance last year. He had to fight until the end to qualify for the Kona IM World Cup ... where finally could not compete for an injury.

Currently the recovery of the injury is very advanced so you may soon be training the 100% and hopefully see him compete as soon as possible. We have chatted with him to take stock of 2015 and tell us his 2016 objectives.

Hello Victor, how are you? First of all, we want to ask you how you feel about the fracture of stress in the calcaneus that deprived you of going to Hawaii for the second year in a row.

The truth is that I'm pretty good. At first I was two months standing without running. The first month I stopped completely and then I started little by little to swim and bike. I'm happy because I've recovered better than I expected, now I'm training in Lanzarote at Sand Beach, without discomfort and running well.

Last year you played 5 Ironmans (South Africa, Texas, Nice, United Kingdom and Embrunman). What was the reason for competing so much? Can you summarize a bit the best and worst races?

In 2014 I decided to compete little, since I had obtained the place for Kona, I did not want to do many races to prepare Kona well ... and I did not do well in the World Cup in Hawaii and I did not enjoy during the year when competing less than usual. I have always been doing a lot of competitions throughout the season so last year I decided to compete more and run what I wanted. According to my fitness I was looking for tests

. The first part of the season did not go as well as I expected due to situations that are not controllable, I ran ill in the Texas IM where I had to leave. Later I recovered well and I had good results in Zarautz, Nice and the United Kingdom. Finally in Embrun I got a good result but I already ran with a lot of discomfort, the last part of the marathon was very hard for me.

Enter so many competitions and trips Can you tell us some curious anecdote?

Well the truth is that you travel so much and so many places that some weird things already seem normal. I would highlight the first competition of the year in Dubai, the trip was an odyssey, I got bad before the competition and the race a disaster.

To train you can not go by bike on the road and they took us to a circuit specifically to train there. They took us by taxi and after training they did not know how to come for us, we waited for hours until in the end a man who had gone there to train brought us in his car.

What are your goals for 2016?

The main objective is to be able to compete at 100%, to respect my injuries. I will fight another watch to go to Kona, where I hope to qualify and once there to make a race that I feel satisfied. I'll run some 70.3 and then the Nice IM. Later we will see what competitions we do.

For this season 2016 has started with Alvaro Rancé. What can you emphasize about training with him?

Well, we have changed a lot of things, now we make less volume than we did before and much more intensity, we are also placing a lot of emphasis on the strength work in the gym. Álvaro likes to keep us very well controlled with stress tests and lactate tests. I have a lot more control parameters than I had before. Much of the success of the good recovery I have had is thanks to the work with my coach.

Thank you very much for the interview Victor, we hope to see you again soon competing at 100%.

Greetings and thanks to you.
