The Austrian professional cyclist Georg preidler has been sentenced this Wednesday by a court in Innsbruck (Austria), at first instance, to a twelve-month prison sentence for participating in a tblood doping branch.

As reported Brand, the ex-cyclist of teams such as Groupama-FDJ (France) and Team Sunweb (Germany) was accused of having defrauded his clubs, sponsors and race organizers for the use of doping.

The economic damage caused by Preidler was estimated by the prosecution at about 280.000 euros ($ 300.000)

You will also have to pay around € 3.000

In addition to the suspended prison sentence, the cyclist was sentenced to a fine of 2.880 euros ($ 3.300).

Preidler, who published a 15-page written confession for the trial, reportedly doped at least between March 2017 and March 2019.

The doctor says he gave him syringes before 2018

In his confession he confirmed that he took the drug with the help of a German doctor from 2018 but denied having done so before. However, at the trial, a Croatian witness claimed to have already given him syringes and growth hormones before 2018, always making it clear that it was doping.

Preidler assured, according to ORF, that at that time he was not aware that they were illegal substances for sport, which the prosecution considered as not very credible.

The cyclist apologized for what happened

In his final prayer, the cyclist apologized for what happened, especially having been a model for many young people as a professional athlete. He concluded by saying that he retires from the sport entirely, having "ruined" his own life.

Preidler acknowledged for the first time in March last year having participated in a dismantled doping network during the 2019 Nordic Ski World Cup, with a score of athletes involved.

The Austrian, now 30 years old and who competed in the 2018 Vuelta a España with Groupama-FDJ, then personally addressed the Austrian Prosecutor's Office to explain that he was in contact with the blood doping network led by a German doctor.
