A cyclist is in the ICU after being hit in one of the new safe routes
Another weekend, more we have to echo again bad news related to the safety of cyclists.
Two days after the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) announced the start-up of 10 safer and guarded routes for cyclists area, the tragedy happened again on the Valencian roads and, precisely, to one of these sections, that of the CV-500 that goes from Alfafar to Palmeretes.
Thus, around ten o'clock in the morning yesterday the emergency services were alerted of a run over from a car to a cyclist on this road in the municipality of Sueca. Until then, a unit of the Urgent Medical Care Service (SAMU) that took the hit, a man of 53 years whose identity, for now, is unknown, to the hospital of the Ribera de Alzira.
There, the health services proceeded immediately to enter it in the operating room where he underwent various operations to try, by all means, to save his life.
Although, for the moment, the exact circumstances of the accident are unknown, some witnesses who passed through the area shortly after it indicated that they had seen the bike quite shattered, with one of its wheels even separated from the main frame. And they also commented that, apparently, due to the strong impact on the vehicle, the cyclist hit himself with the road safety railing, which caused important cuts and injuries.
This year they have already died eight cyclists on the roads of the region. Especially serious was the Oliva accident on Sunday morning, 7 day in May, where a drunk and drugged driver cut off three people's lives, and wounded three others.
In Spain the figure of deceased cyclists in 2017 already ascends to 26. What is leading the Government and the DGT to take action.
From Triathlon News we work to try to raise awareness among cyclists and drivers trying to inform about good behavior and the regulations to avoid these tragic news.
