The Confederal Parliamentary Group of Unidos Podemos-En Comú Podem-En Marea, will take this issue to the congress to try to modify the current rule on the construction of protected cycle paths.

The initiative presented, proposes to modify the norm that is in force on the Instruction of Roads, approved by the Ministry of Development in February of last year, that "It forces to run cyclists completely independent of the road of the road and with differentiated layout (bike lanes) ".

This standard "only allows to find protected bike lane solutions in peri-urban and urban sections, and only under certain very restrictive conditions"And as the match comments" is far from optimal, since iallows the construction of these lanes in a significant percentage of cases".

The justification of this proposal ensures the current rule "that makes sense in cases of unprotected lanes, has unnecessarily extended to the protected“, which in practice prevents the construction of cycle paths, because “it would make their cost extremely expensive, especially in areas of complicated orography, where the availability of land is very limited”.

For this reason, and in accordance with the requests of the Spanish Bicycle Table, the PNL urges the Government to "promote and support the work of the Technical Committee organized by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), to design and subsequently approve the Plan State Bicycle Strategy, providing the necessary means for it”.

Likewise, the parliamentary group claims to modify Order FOM / 273/2016, “limiting it to indicate that for highways In interurban sections, it is desirable to make independent paths, but allowing the possibility of being built as properly protected lanes".

It also asks to review the aforementioned order and adjust it "so that, in urban areas or sections, all the usual designs of cycle paths could be possible without exception, regardless of the nature and ownership of the path and as long as the safety of the cyclists".
