The route of La Vuelta 21 unveiled, with an atypical ending

The Burgos Evolution Forum has hosted this Thursday the official presentation of the La Vuelta 21 route

In an act marked by health security measures, with public limitations and distance between attendees, 'La Vuelta de las Catedrales' has been presented.

The 76th edition of the Spanish round It will start in front of the Burgos Cathedral on August 14 and will run entirely through Spanish territory until the last stage, which will lead to the Cathedral of Santiago, on September 5.

Unipublic announced this Thursday, February 11, the tour of La Vuelta 21, which will be played between August 14 and September 5.

The stages

The first eight kilometers of the 3.336,1 km. that make up the test will be an urban individual time trial in the city of Burgos.

A tour around its cathedral, the town's most emblematic monument, which in 2021 commemorates the XNUMXth centenary of its construction.

The next two stages will remain within the Burgos province, with a final in the La Gamonal neighborhood and another at the top of Picón Blanco, the first unprecedented high-altitude finish of La Vuelta 21.

The peloton will move towards the east of the peninsula, with stops in the provinces of Soria, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Albacete, Valencia and Alicante.

In this last territory you will discover another ascent: the Balcón de Alicante. A little further south, La Vuelta will have a goal in the Region of Murcia and will put the end to the first week of competition in the already known Alto de Velefique, in Almería.

After a first day of rest, the race will resume in Roquetas de Mar and will take its time to explore the Andalusian geography.

The provinces of MálagaJaén Cordova They will pick up the alternative before La Vuelta returns to Extremadura for the first time since 2013.

Badajoz Caceres They will host two starts and two goals in 2021. Pico Villuercas stands out for its spectacularity, a very hard climb and unprecedented in the test. Just before the break,

Ávila It will end the second week with a goal in the historic El Barraco, the birthplace of some of the best cyclists in the history of Spanish cycling.

The runners will regain their strength before a final stage of the race that promises strong emotions.

Cantabria It will offer an integral stage in the community, before giving way to the ascent to the emblematic Lakes of Covadonga.

The Principality of Asturias He will seek to become the judge of La Vuelta 21, linking the day on the mythical canguesa climb and a stage that will serve to discover a new port in history: Altu d'El Gamoniteiru.

Galicia He will resume the race with a goal in Monforte de Lemos and a full stage in the province of Pontevedra that will delight the classicists.

It will not be Madrid, but A Coruña the province chosen for the dispute of the last day of La Vuelta 21.

In the Xacobeo year and being the Vuelta de las Catedrales in 2021, the organization has prepared a final time trial ending in Santiago de Compostela and starting from Padrón.

Stage that will sound in the memory of cycling fans of the 90s, very similar to the one that decided the triumph of Tony Rominger in La Vuelta 1993.

A PRESENTATION IN REDUCED FORMAT

Although the official presentation of the route is a massive event that brought together more than 2020 attendees in 1.200, in 2021 security has come before the usual festival of this call.

With an attendance equivalent to 15% of the capacity of the Evolución de Burgos Forum, the use of a mask was mandatory throughout the event and the recommended interpersonal distance of 2 meters between each attendee was respected at all times.
