A participant in a MTB downhill race dies
The runner suffered a fall while competing and nothing could be done to save his life
Yesterday 10 Sunday of March of 2019 was disputed the twenty-sixth edition of the famous decline in MTB in the Barcelona town of Sant Andreu de la Barca, where a 32-year-old participant has suffered a serious accident where he has lost his life. The affected rider has suffered the fall in an area of difficult access. In spite of this, the emergency services have done everything possible to save the life of the injured person, although finally nothing has been done to keep the runner alive.
The accident occurred at the top of the 1.200-meter track, with a 170-meter drop, when the qualifying round prior to the competition was being held.
This is the official statement of the organization:
We regret to announce the suspension of the test on Sunday due to the fatal accident of a participant during the qualifying session. Following the consensus of the organization by the Moto Club Sant Andreu de la Barca, the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation, the UCI and a large number of runners, it was decided to suspend the race.
The Sant Club Club de Sant Andreu de la Barca wants to extend its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the runner, as well as the support to the entire cycling community in these difficult moments.
