The UCI approves a new Covid-19 protocol for Grand Tours

La International Cycling Union (UCI) has published a series of measures with a new protocol Covid-19 which will be implemented in the grand tours, which has been confirmed one day before the Tour de France starts.

The Rules apply to all UCI WorldTour, UCI Women's WorldTour and UCI ProSeries races, as well as Continental Road Championships (Elite Men and Elite Women) and UCI Road World Championships (Elite Men and Elite Women)

One of the most important points is that A team may be expelled from the race only if 2 or more riders test positive for COVID-19. Staff members are not included here as if the Tour de Francia in your measure from a few days ago.

The new measures

The document is based on an assessment of the risk and the measures to be taken regarding its value.

"In the event of a positive test during the course of a stage race, the runner or staff member will be excluded from the Event.

However, there may be exceptions set by the UCI Medical Director if it is established that the runner or staff member in question is not likely to infect third parties.

In the event of two positive tests for two or more riders of a team within a 7-day period during a GrandTour, the UCI Medical Director will authorize the organizing event to exclude the team from the Event"
