More than 400 cyclists have lost their lives in the last decade
The initiative is adopted after the fatal collision of two athletes in the Comunitat Valenciana this past weekend.
The general director of Traffic, Gregorio Serrano, announced this Tuesday the call for a urgent commission of road safety for the next May 16 where a special protection and safety plan for cyclists will be approved.
This initiative comes after Eduardo Monfort and Luis Alberto Contreras lost their livesl last Sunday, when they were driving their bicycles on a road in Oliva (Valencia) and were hit by a driver, who tested positive for alcohol and drugs.
Because they are more vulnerable, extreme precautions. RSpecify the minimum lateral distance of 1,5 meters and never endanger [the cyclists]”, the DGT has snapped at motorists through its Twitter account
