The last weekend of September of the year 2020 will be special for the triathlon and the town of Cascais, which will literally be invaded by 5.000 participating at the Portuguese premiere of triathlon IRONMAN long distance.
The test will take place in two days.
The inaugural event of IRONMAN Portugal-Cascais will take place on Saturday, September 26Followed by Sunday 27, the fourth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 on the same circuit, with the two events occupying an area of 1.198 square kilometers and an impact on the local economy of around € 20 million.
The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo, has underlined the success of the event during the last three years. "It is extraordinary to realize that in such a short time we have been able to reach this level of organization.
Five thousand participants will be dazzled by the places they will go through, but even more relevant is the idea that millions of people will follow this event so proud of the country".
The circuits of IRONMAN Portugal-Cascais.
With Rolling Start on the beach of the fishermen, the trialtetas will have to complete a single lap of 3,8 kilometers of swimming between the protected bay of Cascais and the Estoril coast,
The expected temperature in the water will be around 18 and 21 degrees Celsius, ending the segment at the Fortaleza del Club Naval.
To get to the transition zone located at the Cascais racecourse, they will have to walk 630 meters on a red carpet.
The cycling segment will go through the A16 and the Formula 1 circuit
From there, they will wait for you 180 kilometers of cycling
For the first time in Portugal, the circuit will travel 39 kilometers through the A16 highway, to complete the first cycle around the impressive landscape of the forest of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, before entering Formula 1 Circuit and Moto GP, at Estoril Race Track, where Ayrton Senna won his first GP.
The bicycle route reaches Marginal through Estoril, in two short flat turns, next to the ocean, between Lisbon and Cascais.
The race on foot
The last section of the triathlon, the foot race, will be 42,2 kilometers long and will be one of the most beautiful, following the coast, to Cape Raso and back to Cascais, to the finish line located in the heart of the town, next to the Town Hall.

The total human resources exceed 2.000 people, including the event team, the police, security, medical personnel, volunteers and explorers, to cover the participation of 5.000 athletes and the presence of 15 companions.
85% of the participants are foreigners, which would make it possible to fill 57 AIRBUS 330. Among the athletes, 88,000 overnight stays are planned from full distance and from medium distance, and their companions.
The director of the event, Jorge Pereira, commented at the press conference "For me, it is a dream come true. In 2017 we placed Cascais on the international triathlon map. We are now expanding this legacy with a full distance event.
We hope to create memorable moments for our athletes and a great economic and sports impact in Portugal ".
