5.000 triathletes are expected on the weekend of IRONMAN Cascais

Athletes from 80 nationalities from the 5 continents are expected

The last weekend of September of the year 2020 will be special for the triathlon and the town of Cascais, which will be literally invaded by 5.000 participants at the Portuguese premiere of triathlon IRONMAN long distance.

The test will be held in two days.

The inaugural event of IRONMAN Portugal-Cascais took place on Saturday September 26Followed by Sunday 27, the fourth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 in the same circuit, with the two events occupying an area of ​​1.198 square kilometers and an impact on the local economy of around € 20 million.

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo, has underlined the success of the event during the last three years. "It is extraordinary to realize that in such a short time we have been able to reach this level of organization.

Five thousand participants will be dazzled by the places they will go through, but even more relevant is the idea that millions of people will follow this proud event of the country".

The circuits of IRONMAN Portugal-Cascais.

The swimming

With Rolling Start on Fisherman's Beach, trialtets will have to complete a single lap of 3,8 kilometers of swimming between the protected bay of Cascais and the Estoril coast,

The expected temperature in the water will be around 18 and 21 degrees Celsius, ending the segment in the Naval Club Fortress.

To reach the transition zone located at the Cascais racecourse, you will have to walk 630 meters along a red carpet.

The cycling segment will pass through the A16 and the Formula 1 circuit

From there, they will wait for you 180 kilometers of cycling

For the first time in Portugal, the circuit will travel 39 kilometers along the A16 highway, to complete the first cycle around the impressive landscape of the forest of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, before entering Formula 1 circuit and Moto GP, in Estoril Race Track, where Ayrton Senna won his first GP.

The bike route reaches Marginal through Estoril, on two short flat laps, next to the ocean, between Lisbon and Cascais.

The race on foot

The last section of the triathlon, the race on foot, will have 42,2 kilometers of route and will be one of the most beautiful, following the coast, to Cape Raso and back to Cascais, to the goal located in the heart of the town, next of the townhall.

The total human resources exceeds the 2.000 people, including the event team, the police, security, medical staff, volunteers and explorers, to cover the participation of 5.000 athletes and the presence of 15 thousand companions.

85% of the participants are foreigners, which would allow filling 57 AIRBUS 330. Among the athletes, that from the full distance and from the average distance, and their companions, 88,000 overnight stays are planned.
