Andrew Starykowicz and Daniela Ryf, the best Ironman cyclists in history

The American Andrew Starykowicz and the Swiss Daniela Ryf have been recognized as the best Ironman cyclists in history in a survey they have done since Ironman

Looking back on four decades of spectacular performances in the Ironman testing bike sector, the triathletes were asked to choose the best cyclists of all time.

Male Candidates

Among the candidates were Andrew Starykowicz and his American compatriot Chris Lieto, Lionel Sanders, Sebastian Kienle, Normann StadlerThomas Hellriegel y Cameron Wurf.

Finally it was Andrew Starykowicz, thanks to the brand achieved in 2018 with 3:54:59 at Ironman Texas, who got the most votes.

Less than a year ago, Starykowicz was hit by a truck during a workout and faced months of grueling recovery. Even so, in April he managed to break the record in the American IRONMAN Championship in Texas (finally finished eighth).

Also in his second race after the accident at IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey, he set a new cycling record with 1: 57: 22, finishing in second place.

Female Candidates

The current world champion IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3, Daniela Ryf, he faced the Swiss Caroline Steffen and Karin Theurig, the six-time Kona champion Natascha Badmann , the eight-time IRONMAN world champion Paula Newby-Fraser, Brit Julie Dibens and US Heather Jackson.

Daniela Ryf, who just got the best time in an IRONMAN 70.3 (3: 57: 54) in IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia in Poland, was the clear winner.

 Ryf has won the World title in Kona for the past three years and will try to match Paula Newby-Fraser's record of four consecutive wins this October.

In addition, the September 1 will compete for its fourth IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship title at Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
