Iván Raña will look for victory in the IM Cozumel and his classification for Kona 2019

The Galician returns to Mexico where last year he got the third place.

The Galician Ivan Raña will try to qualify for the World Cup in Hawaii for 7 consecutive time in the Ironman of Cozumel in Mexico, their land "talisman"

A few days ago they were fulfilled 16 years of the first victory of a Spaniard in an ITU World Cup in charge of Ivan Raña in the Cancun 2002 World Cup. After the came the 5 titles by Javier Gómez Noya and 3 of Mario Mola. Three years earlier in 1999 Raña achieved his first podium in a World Cup by being second.

Years later in 2012 Iván debuted in Ironman distance in Ironman of Cozumel where he took the victory with a time of 8: 15: 20. And last season the Galician achieved a great third place with which he certified in a mathematical way his classification for the Kona World Championship.

Other Spanish triathletes have also shone in Cozumel, as Alejandro Santamaría who was the first to get on the podium, being 3º in 2011, besides Eneko Llanos (3º in 2013) and Clemente Alonso (3º in 2014)

The competition possesses what is possibly the most beautiful swim of the Ironman circuit, 3.800 m almost in a straight line bordering the coral reef of Cozumel, Later, cycling are 3 turns of 60km completely flat to finish with the marathon, where heat and humidity are expected. The triathletes will run in a circuit of 14,065 km until completing the 42,195 km.

In the male category the Austrian Michael Weiss (ex-cyclist sanctioned by doping) top10 in the world step of Hawaii is the big favorite, to victory. Last year he was second just in front of Ivan Raña and total 2 wins and 4 podiums in IM Cozumel.

Meanwhile Ivan Raña, is trained to fight face to face with the Swiss and always has options to fight with the best in any event he disputes. Other aspirants to the front positions are French Trevor Delsalt, the American Matt Russell and the Brazilian IGor Amorelli.

The test has other Spanish in the list of departure Víctor Arroyo who last year was 7º in the IM of Cozumel and later after suffering a serious accident he recovered and returned to the competition a few weeks ago in the IM of Italy where he achieved the 12 position.

As regards the female competition the Danish Michelle Vesterby 2ª in the past Ironman of Lanzarote is the favorite, along with the Americans Lisa Roberts, Laurel Wassner y Kelsey Withrow
