Javier Gómez Noya and Judith Corachán our strengths in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship

More than 4.000 triathletes will compete in the event where Spain has 57 triathletes.

This next weekend the 12 edition of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be held, where there will be 4.500 triathletes from different 90 nationalities. 

The American city of Chattanooga in the state of Tennessee will be the world epicenter of triathlon the next 9 and 10 September, with the celebration of the reign of middle distance, the Ironman World Championship 70.3. The test comes with two great novelties, the first is that It will be celebrated in two daysOn Saturday women will compete and Sunday will be the turn for men. The other great novelty will be total equality in the PRO category, with the same number of classified triathletes (50 by sex) besides the continental champions and the world champions of other editions.

 The swim will take place on the Tennessee River where the triathletes will go around a rectangular circuit of 1,9 km. Later they will face the 90km of cycling, to a single turn, with a circuit that has two different parts, the first 40km are broken with 1.000m of unevenness while the remaining 50 are practically flat. Finally the test will end with 21,1km of running race around the Tennessee River.

As we have said before, women will be the first to train in action. In total there are 1.713 registered and the main favorites are the British Holly Lawrance defending title and the switzerland Daniela Ryf, current champion of the Ironman world. The other candidates for the podium are the Australians Annabel Luxford and Melissa Hauschildt, the German Laura Philipp, the South African Jeanni Seymour and the British Emma Pallant. Judith Corachan She will be the only Spanish representative in the PRO category, making history in national triathlon by being the first woman to compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

As regards the male competition in total there will be 2.810 on the starting list. The main favorites as we commented yesterday in an article are the German Sebatian Kienle and Spanish Javier Gomez Noya You also have to take into account the Australian Tim Reed current champion and the Mexican Mauricio Méndez, the New Zealander, are also candidates for the podium Terenzo Bozzone, the British Tim Don, the Australian Sam Appleton or the Bermudan Tyler Butterfield.

Both tests will start at 7: 30 in the morning local time (13: 30 hour in mainland Spain), women on Saturday and men on Sunday. The United States will be the country with the highest representation, with 1.853 triathletes, followed by Canada with 264, Australia with 232 and the United Kingdom with 213.

It should be noted the large representation of Latin American countries with nearly 600 triathletes, the most represented countries being Brazil with 181 triathletes, Argentina with 101 and Mexico with 95. Spain It will be represented by 57 triathletes, 6 of them girls.
