He started giving me towards km 13 and from there I had to focus on finishing as it was without being able to keep up with my two rivals. Jan and Alistair have been stronger today and it only remains to congratulate them "

Involvement Javier Gómez Noya In the Half Ironman World Championship -disputed in Nelson Mandela Bay in Puerto Isabel- it has settled with the third place before a team of the highest level.

The Galician, winner of this title in 2014 and 2017, He arrived as one of the great favorites along with the Olympic and world champions Jan Frodeno y Alistair Brownlee. And the forecasts were fulfilled since they were the ones who occupied the podium positions.

In the swimming phase, as expected, there were no great differences between the 30 participants of the men's professional round, and a group of nine finished the two kilometers of swimming in the sea in the lead. Cycling did not make any difference either, with a very fast round trip, with some steep slopes but suitable for moving large developments and almost always going in an aerodynamic position.

At the end of the 90 kilometers, six triathletes of the nine who started it in the lead arrived, after having gone in a row maintaining the regulation distance. Among the off-hooks in the group were New Zealander Branden Currie, who had beaten Gómez Noya at the Cairns Ironman in June; He reached 5 minutes, which indicates that he went very fast in front.

Therefore, a 21km duel was presumed between the three old rivals in the Olympic distance, with an ideal route to run very fast as it is flat and with long straights. With them had come the American Ben Kanute, the Belgian Peeter Heemeryck and the Australian Sam Appleton. Gómez Noya was the last to leave the transition and he had to chase until he reached the head. Alistair Brownlee started very strong followed by Frodeno, with Javier going back little by little. The German surpassed the British, the Spanish also and ended up contacting Frodeno.

They stayed together for approximately 10 kilometers until around the 15 Frodeno detached himself from Gómez Noya, since he had to slow down -even getting to walk a few meters- afflicted with flatus on her right side. He was able to get back on track and pick up a good pace, but Brownlee also ended up beating him. Frodeno therefore crossed the finish line first (achieving his 2nd championship at this distance) with Brownlee at 1'10 ”and Gómez Noya at 1'55.

The 4th at more than 6 minutes gives the ideal of the tremendous pace that these three monsters of the triathlon carried, competitive whatever the distance and format.

“I am disappointed that I was not able to run at the level I expected because of the flatus. He started to give me towards km 13 and from there I had to focus on finishing as it was without being able to keep up with my two rivals. Jan and Alistair were stronger today and it only remains to congratulate them ”.

With Frodeno he will once again measure himself in the mythical Hawaii Ironman on October 13, in what will mean the debut of the Spanish in the great event of the world triathlon. There the German starts with the advantage of experience, since he has already participated four times, managing to be first twice and third once.
