Kona 2015: data, anecdotes and wishes

We tell you some data of the last edition of the Hawaii Ironman

This is my last article of the Special Kona 2015 for Triathlon News, and I am going to dedicate it to curious facts, anecdotes and wishes for the next Kona 2016 World Championship

DATA:

  • Eneko Llanos is the man "record of the records" Spanish in the world of IM: 10 participations in Kona, 7 times finisher, 5 times top7 and the only podium PRO Spanish in Mecca, 2º in 2008.
  • Thanks to its final results, Eneko has a foot and a half in Kona'16, Ivan Raña one foot and Miquel Blanchart half foot.
  • In GGEE Guillermo Lladó equaled Albert Comas as only Spanish 5 times finishers in Hawaii. Albert is already registered in the IM Texas'16 to try to get his 6º slot
  • One step below ... Iván Álvarez y Jordi Reig equaled Jaime Menéndez being 4 times finishers.
  • Jordi Matos got to be the first Spanish to be 3 times finisher consecutively in GGEE.
  • Marc Martínez finished his 3er world IM ... with only 24 years, possibly the youngest Spanish to be 3 times finisher.
  • For the first time in history Spain had 2 current European champions in Kona: Cata Barceló y Marina Leboso, in 18-24 and 25-29.
  • Cata Barceló She was the first Mallorcan finisher in Kona.
  • Mabel Gallardo orHe had the best result of a Spanish in Hawaii, 6ª in his GGEE.
  • Lew Hollander He premiered the category + 85 in Hawaii being the first world champion of the category.

CURIOSITIES

Mabel Gallardo and Pedro María Campoy

Mabel Gallardo and Pedro María Campoy

They have been the first Spanish marriage finishers in Hawaii. Their competition overalls were very significant, since both had a caricature of them stamped, representing a high school teacher (Mabel) and a policeman (Predo María)

Marina Leboso

It deluded us beautifully as to 20-30km of Hawii. My career can be summed up in good swimming, I left calm and happy, good bike despite the flood until about 60km to get to T2 where I was left alone in no man's land with wind against and did not exceed 20-25km / h. I despaired! Maybe the best in the marathon I met a Spanish guy who was his 3 Kona (did not even ask the name?) But it was great! He accompanied me to the energy lab and told me he was not coming back! Hahaha that was the worst year by far! And I telling you, do not discourage me! That we arrived at the 30 and that's where the race begins !!!

WISH

In the face of 2016 I have several wishes that I hope will be fulfilled, the first to send a lot of encouragement to all the triathletes who were in Kona and who will fight to be next year:

  • The return of the Alonso brothers. From here send a lot of encouragement to both, I hope that Michael recovers soon from his clavicle break after the fall
  • Cheers to Víctor del Corral and Tomás Amado who could not take the start due to injury ... hopefully in 2016 they are at the start, they deserve it.
  • Cheers to Carlos Aznar, who suffered a fall on a bike and to David Corredor who did not have his day ... I hope that in 2016 they will get even stronger.
