Guruzte Frades returns to the Kona Ironman with a stop at the Ironman 70.3 in Augusta

The triathlete from Bizkaia Gurutze Frades completes its preparation in Granada, in the High Performance Center of Sierra Nevada, located at 2320 meters of altitude, to dispute the triathlon test reserved for the best athletes of this modality: Ironman Triathlon World Championship to be held next October 14 on the Hawaiian island of Kona. This tough competition, in which only 35 women and 50 men will participate, is known for the Biscayan, since she had the opportunity to participate in it for the first time in the past 2016.

Frades claims to be well to face the most demanding workouts and hopes to reach the competition in its best form and get a great result. In his opinion, having participated in the previous edition helps him visualize what he will find.

With stop in Augusta

The Ironman of Hawaii is one of the most demanding competitions of the ultra-end competitions. The triathletes face 3800 meters of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling and 42 kilometers of running. This one of 2017 will be the 41ª edition of a test that in 1978 happened to be erected in the world championship of the modality.

Despite its great difficulty, Gurutze Frades spares no effort when it comes to preparing for the competition. On September 18 the triathlete will begin her journey to Kona but, first, on American soil, she will make a stop in the state of Georgia, where he plans to participate in the Augusta Ironman 70.3. This test will serve as a test before arriving in Kona, where, in the 20 days prior to the date of celebration of the championship, Frades will have enough time to acclimate to the conditions of heat and humidity.

Gurutze Frades has achieved what only 35 women and 50 men on the planet have been able to achieve: to qualify to compete in the Ironman World Championship, which places her in the elite of this sport modality. The classification system is complex and with a level of demand as high as that of the test itself. In order to reach Kona, athletes must play a series of international competitions that will guarantee them a place in the professional category.

To qualify for the Hawaiian World Championship, triathletes and triathletes add points earned in a maximum of 4 Ironman competitions during the 13 months prior to the championship. Obtaining points depends on two variables: the category of the race, which is assigned by the Ironman franchise, and the position in which it is concluded in the competition.

With the 33º placed in the Ironman of Hawaii of 2016, besides an 5º put in the Ironman of South Africa; an 4º placed in the Ironman of Brazil and an 6º placed in the French 70.3 of Pays D'Aix in 2017, Gurutze Frades added 4915 points that placed him in the 28º position of the ranking.
