Our favorites for the Ironman World Championship

Today is the day, this afternoon will start the awaited Ironman of Hawaii where Jan Frodeno and Daniela Ryf will fight for their third consecutive world title.

These are our favorites for victory:

Male Test

Jan Frodeno (ALE)

The big favorite is the German, Ironman World Champion in 2015-2016 and with victories this year in the Ironman 70.3 Barcelona and Ironman of Austria.

Sebastian Kienle (ALE)

Second last year and winner in 2014, has managed this year to be the triathlete KPR more points with a win at Ironman Frankfurt, where he won for the third time European Champion title.

Patrick Lange (ALE)

Third last year, he has suffered an injury this year that has had him standing for several months, and reappeared in Frankfurt with an 2: 39 marathon. He appears in the test with a recent victory in the Ironman 70.3 Reugen in 3: 43.

Ben Hofman (United States)

Fourth last year, he got his qualification in the Ironman South Africa down from the 8 hours, will participate for the eighth time in this test, where he will fight to be on the podium.

David McName (UK)

In 2017 he was third in South Africa this year and has won the Ironman 70.3 Dublin, Ironman 70.3 Mallorca and Challenge Salou.

Tim O'donnel (USA)

Sixth last year and this year winner of the Boulder Ironman will also be one of the triathletes to consider

Frederick Van Lierde (BEL)

Champion in 2013, is a great runner and will surely be fighting with the best of the test.

Lionel Sanders (CAN)

The athlete SkechersWinner of Arizona Ironman with 7: 44: 29 in 2016 and that has won this year the LD World ITU Championship and Championship Challenge , Ironman 70.3 Sant George and Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires

Female test

Daniela Ryf (SUI)

The great favorite for the victory is the Swiss Ironman World Champion in 2015-2016  and with victories this year in the  Ironman South Africa going down from the 9 hours, Challenge Roth and recently in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship .

Some of the triathletes that will have to follow closely in the test will be the following ones;

Heather Jackson (United States)

Third last year in Kona, this year he broke the record in Ironman Lake Placid, was second in Ironman Boulder and won the Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga, Heather is one of Daniela's great rivals.

Sarah Crowley (AUS)

Winner of the ITU World Cup LD this year, comes with a triplet of victories since we have to add those obtained in the Ironman of Frankfurt and of Caims. What makes it one of the favorites to fight for the highest.

 Lucy Charles (UK)

The young triathlete Skechers of 24 years, has won this year the Challenge Lisbon , The Championship Challenge and Ironman Lanzarote , with cycling record included, besides being second in the Ironman Europe Championship in Frankfurt and in the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote . She is a very strong triathlete in the water and on the bike although her weakest point is the race on foot, although she has already shown that in Lanzarote's Ironman she adapts well to the conditions of humidity and heat.

Kaisa Sali (END)

He was fifth last year in Kona, and this year he has achieved a second place in the Ironman of South Africa, coming down from the 9 hours sub 3 in the marathon, he has also been fourth in the LD World ITU Championship

Sarah Piampiano (USA)

Seventh in 2015 and 2016 in Kona, this year he was second in the Ironman of Cairns and first in the 70.3 of Quing. His weak point is swimming which marks the rest of his career.

Michelle Vesterby (OF)

It was sixth last year in Kona and the year has won the Ironman Cozumel and third in Austria.

Rachel Joyce (UK)

It reappears this year after being a mother last year, Rachel has been podium in 3 occasions in Kona (2 2015, 3 2014, 2 2013), she comes without expectations and wanting to make the best race possible.

The Spanish

Ivan Raña

As for the Spanish Ivan was better Spanish last year and this 2017 participates for the fifth time in Kona. In 2013, the year of his debut, Ivan got a great 6 position, with 8: 23: 43 and doing the best time in the marathon of all the participants.

This year he has not competed much, since after his ninth place last year he had practically his assured classification, although last August he got a fourth place in the  Ironman 70.3 Zell am See and he's very focused on the test and will fight to be as high as possible.

Eneko Llanos

Eneko has the best Spanish mark in Kona, with 8:20:50, time that served him to be 2nd in 2008, the best result of a Spanish triathlete in the most important triathlon in the world. Eneko has been the best Spanish in Hawaii 4 times more in these last 10 years, coming down from 8: 30: 00 three times and this time it will be his 12 participation in the race in a season where he got his classification "in extremis".

Eneko this year has been second in the Ironman Austria, fifth in the Ironman France, and eighth in Iroman 70.3 Dublin last august

Gurutze frades

As for the girls, they have only qualified and come from a great year 2017 with a second place in the Ironman 70.3 Augusta last September, in addition to having achieved an 4º position in the Ironman Brazil, which meant its classification for Kona, a fifth in the  Ironman South Africa and a sixth place in the 70.3 Pays d'Aix .
