In the following article we are going to talk about the Spanish options to get podium in the Kona in their age groups, which in the case of the Ironman World Championship are 5 those who go to the podium

Al Ironman World Championship from Hawaii go the best PROs and GGEE in the world. In an earlier chapter of our "Special Kona 2016 " we counted how the classification of Spanish professionals They will compete in Kona and the difficult ones to qualify, due to the amount of tests they must run around the world ... especially if they start from scratch without having points from the previous year's World Cup. For its part in GGEE every time the level is higher, there are more tests and more triathletes looking for their "slot" for Hawaii.

A few days ago in our "Special Kona 2017" we presented you with the list of all the Spaniards that will compete in the Ironman World Championship, listing them by category and showing the dorsal that they will have in competition, both the PROs and the GGEE.

In the following article we will talk about the Spanish options to get podium in the Kona in their age groups, which in the case of the Ironman World Championship are 5 those who go on the podium. Last year they were Carlos Aznar (2º in 30-34), David Corredor (3º in 35-39) and Pedro José Andujar (4º in 25-29). Recall also that only two Spaniards have been IM world champions in Age Groups: Fernando García Aja y Pedro Oviedo. Fernando won in 45-49 in 2010 and Pedro in 55-59 in 2012.

Will any Spanish join them? Let's hope so.

Spanish Options Ironman Kona GGEE

This year, the manchego David Corredor returns to "Mecca" being the main asset of the Spanish GGEE in the world. David appears in Kona as the current European champion in his group and 3º of the world in his age group.

Another triathlete with great options is Víctor Arroyo that last year it was very close being 6º in 30-34. In this age group also has options the catellonense Fernando Santander y Luis Hernández Spout.

Another group where the Spanish have serious options to get a podium is 35-39 with Alex Aguirreche and Jose Antonio Arranz (both podium in his ggee in the IM of LZ) along with David Corridors that we have already mentioned.

Finally we can not forget to Josep Marín, of the 65-69 age group. Josep is one of the best Spanish athletes in history, was runner-up in the world in the 50km March in 1983 and European champion in 20km in 1982. It also has 4 participation in JJOO and 5 diplomas. Josep got his classification in the IM of Barcelona last year winning his age group with a time of 10: 40: 49.

As regards the girls to whom we dedicated an article a few days ago, the six Veronica Aveni-Avene, Alba Reguillo, Luciana Bermudez, Mireia Arrillaga, Mari Cruz Palma y Cristina Ramirez They have options for how it was classified.

Of all of them only Veronica has competed in "Mecca" so she has that experience of knowing the routes and the competition.
