Six Spaniards in the Ironman of South Africa with historic female participation

Next 15 Sunday in April the first KPR 4000 of the season, the Ironman African Championship with the celebration of the Ironman of South Africa.

The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, belonging to Port Elizabeth hosts a new edition of the Ironman of South Africa, the first continental championship of the season, which means being a maximum score test ahead of the World Cup qualification Hawaii Ironman and that presents a great list of departure in both male and female categories.

In the female category, historical presence of four Spanish PRO triathletes: Gurutze Frades, Saleta Castro, Judith Corachán y Patricia Bueno, which means that for the first time there will be four Spanish women in an Ironman KPR 4000 and also one of the few times where the presence of national PROs women is higher than that of men. 

Guru and Saleta will seek to add the maximum possible points in order to look for his classification for the Ironman of Kona, while Judith leaves with the objective of finishing his first Ironman. For her part Patricia Bueno seeks to grow in the PRO category and try to capture the improvements in the marathon.

The main favorites are Lucy Charles runner-up of the Ironman world last year and current Lanzarote Ironman champion, Emma Pallant runner-up in the Ironman 70.3 world and debuting in the distance and Susie Cheetham 4ª last year in Hawaii

As regards the men's competition, Eneko Llanos y Peru Alfaro will be the Spanish representatives. Eneko Llanos He is looking for his thirteenth participation in “Mecca” of the world triathlon as he already told us in his “road to Kona”. It currently has 340 points from the last Hawaii World Cup.

Eneko has already competed in IM South Africa twice, last year he was 14th and in 2015 he achieved a brilliant 5th position. While Peru Alfaro He knows what it is to step on a podium in an Ironman, he did it in Wales where he was 3rd in 2014 and last year he got a magnificent fourth place at the Santa Ironman Lanzarote Club.

Ben Hoffman is the main favorite to win, not in vain is the reigning IM South Africa champion, along with Maurice Claver, fourth last year at IM 70.3 Dubai and Matt Trautman winner in January of the IM 70.3 of South Africa.

The test will start the 6: 30 in the morning with the PRO male output, the 6: 35 will do the women and then the age groups with a large Spanish representation
