Main PROs confirmed in the Club la Santa Ironman 70.3 of Lanzarote

Lanzaote hosts the oldest Ironman 70.3 competition in Spain

 

In two weeks on Saturday 24 in September, the 5 edition of the Club La Santa Ironman 70.3 of Lanzarote, the oldest Ironman 70.3 competition in Spain.

 The exit lists are already known and we will present the main PROs of the test.

The Ironman 70.3 from Lanzarote is the only competition in the Ironman 70.3 circuit that has been won by three different Spanish triathletes, Ivan Raña in 2012, Víctor del Corral The 2013 y Eneko Llanos in 2015, being in addition the Catalan and the Basque the only ones that have won so much in the Ironman of Lanzarote as in the Ironman 70.3.

As regards the women's competition last year, it was the first time that 4 Spanish took part in an Ironman 70.3, also achieved the best global classification of women, with three top6 triathletes, Dolça Ollé 6ª, Aida Valiño 4ª and Saleta Castro 3ª. With that third place Saleta became the first Spanish to be a podium in both the Ironman of Lanzarote and the Ironman 70.3.

Top favorites in women's category

Martina Dogana (Italy, dorsal 12): Italian Champion of Media Distancia at 2016. Within Ironman circuit highlights its 5ª position in the Ironman 70.2 of Norway this 2016. In 2013 was the winner of the first edition of Ironman 70.3 in Italy.

Alice Hector (Great Britain, 13 number): Volcano 2016 and 4ª Triathlon Champion in the Ironman 70.3 of Luxembourg this season. Last year he was 3 at the Ironman in the United Kingdom and got two top10s in two straight weeks at the Ironman 70.3 in New Orleans and Texas.

Lisa Hütthaler (Austria, Dorsal 14): Triathlete who has dropped several times from 9h in Ironman. Last year was 2ª in the Ironman Austria and 2ª in the Ironman 70.3 in Italy. In 2014 he had a great season winning in 3 Ironman 70.3 tests (Luxembourg, St. Pölten and Mallorca)

And on the Spanish side, the only representative will be Judith Corachán (Dorsal 19): Valid champion of Spain LD. The Catalan is making a great season as evidenced by her podiums in Elche, Bilbao and Zarautz, as well as the 4 position in the IRONMAN of the Philippines, so she will be in the IRXMAN 10 world ranking top70.3 for a few days. Also mention that last year was 3ª in the IRONMAN 70.3 in Budapest, which became the first Spanish podium in a test IRONMAN 70.3 circuit.

Top favorites in men's category

Víctor del Corral (Number 1): Víctor is a reference in the Ironman 70.3 in Lanzarote, he has contested all editions, winning in 2013, he was 2nd in 2014 and 6th in 2012. Last year he had to leave due to injury. In addition, Victor is the current champion of the Nice Ironman, and the only Spaniard who has managed to win in the two great Ironmans of Europe: Nice and Lanzarote. In this Ironman 70.3 he begins his way to try to qualify for the world championship Hawaii Ironman of 2017.
 

Thomas Hellriegel (Germany, dorsal 2): Winner of the Ironman Lanzarote in 2003 and one of the best European triathletes of all time. In 1997 he won the IRONMAN World Championship in Hawaii, where he has also been twice second and once third. Currently Thomas has 45 years and continues to compete in the PRO category at the highest level with the best.

Domenico Passuello (Italy, dorsal 3): Multiple winner of the Elche Triathlon and winner of the IRONMAN Taiwan in 2015. Passuello was a professional cyclist for several seasons between the years 2001 and 2005

Stephen Bayliss (Great Britain, dorsal 4): Triathlete who resides in Lanzarote, and a regular of any event that takes place on the island. This year was 2º in the Volcano Triathlon, a test that has been several times top5. This summer he has played several races of the Xterra circuit, being 12ª in Germany and 11º in Italy.

Kenneth Vandendriessche (Belgium, dorsal 5): Specialist in duathlon where is the current European champion and runner-up of the Powerman of Spain in Mallorca. In triathlon highlights his victory in the Volcano Triathlon this year and several top10 in Ironman 70.3 tests as in St. Pölten 2015 or Aix-en-Provence 2014.

We finished the review of the favorites in masculine category citing the rest of Spaniards in category PRO, Josep Torres bronze medal in the MD and LD Championship of Spain in 2015 and top8 in the Ironman 70.3 in Dublin, Raul Lecuona, Rayco Marrero, Pau Botella and Ruben Aragón.
