Saleta Castro faces her first iIonman from Hawaii

After a long and hard season the Galician triathlete has achieved her dream, qualify for the World Cup in Hawaii and will be the youngest Spanish PRO to compete in "The Mecca" (Both men and women)

This year you have struggled a lot, traveling all over the world to qualify for the World Cup in Hawaii. Could you give us a brief summary of how the classification has been?

I started my qualification last year at the 70.3 in Lanzarote where I did 3ª and finished the year running the Malaysian Ironman where I finished 5ª. The winter training was very good training almost 2 months in the club the saint of Lanzarote.

The classification was very good but it got a bit complicated when they did not let me sign up for the IM in South Africa. So I tried it in Texas and Lanzarote with just 5 days between one and the other but in both of them I retired. I thought I would not have any options but I decided to go to Frankfurt where I did 6ª and 3 weeks later the Ironman Maastricht where I did 2ª with that I got the qualification but I was not calm and the 15 days I ran the 70.3 in Dublin where I made 4ª Pro and with that I entered the 3ª of the second cut.

How and where are you training the weeks prior to Hawaii? Have you done any special preparation?

After the 70.3 of Dublin, the 14 of August I decided to go to the port of Navacerrada 20 days. I had never done a concentration in height and I wanted to try.

Do you plan to play a race in advance?

No, I do not have any more planned. Since this year I have run too much and everything that it takes, travel, stress, pressure ... Now I will focus only on doing good workouts.

About the trip to Hawaii When do you plan to travel? Who forms your work team and with whom will you travel to Kona?

I will travel to Kona alone but I arrive the same day as a good friend (Iván Álvarez) and with him I will be a couple of days until my housemates Iván Tejero and Patricia Bueno arrive.

The 30 comes my trainer Luc van Lierde and my osteopath Lanzarote Gunter, in addition to Pablo Sáez (responsible for Powertap in Spain with Tamalpais) that is like my family. I am also super happy because the October 3 will arrive my little sister and my brother in law and for me to have them there will be the complete dream.

Any advice for acclimatization to the Island?

It will be my first time there so the one that needs the advice is me :).

Thank you very much, we wish you the best and above all enjoy your dream in Kona

A big hug and thank you very much!
