Saleta Castro, Miquel Blanchart and Víctor del Corral analyze the routes of the Club La Santa Ironman Lanzarote

Hand in hand with the best connoisseurs of the circuit, we analyze the most important points to consider

A few days after the celebration of the XXV edition of the Club La Santa Ironman Lanzarote, we have asked three of the best Spanish triathletes in "La Isla" who have analyzed the Ironman circuits, Saleta Castro (4 times top10 and 3ª in 2013) has analyzed how to deal with swimming, Miquel Blanchart (2º in 2013 and 2014) has been responsible for telling us the highlights of the cycling sector and finally Víctor de Corral (1º in 2012) the marathon.

Saleta Castro → Swimming

Lanzarote Ironman Swimming Map

"The Lanzarote Ironman swimming is a fairly fast swim, since the sea is usually quite calm and there is a garage, so it is like a pool.

What I would like to highlight is that the exit is quite difficult since the first buoy is just 200m, it is a left turn of 180º and of course, everyone has to go through the same place, there are many hits, so that I always usually place to the right at all to pass the first buoy as open as possible to avoid the blows and although I do more meters, for my experience there is better to do a few more meters to go inside and receive blows, swallow water ...

For the rest, the rest is like swimming in a pool, you stick to the cork and swim in a group quite easy. Of the Ironmans I have made it is one of the best swimming. "

Miquel Blanchart → Cycling

Lanzarote Ironman Cycling Map

"As I have said on other occasions, Lanzarote is the small Kona, an impressive circuit just one lap around the small island. The first 30km more wheelers with false plains, going into the hot springs area, to later enter the Timanfaia park.

From km 50 to 80 approximately the terrain is more favorable and bearable, passing through La Santa and Famara, with the terrible straight towards Teguise, to continue with the ascent towards the viewpoint of Aria.

Long descent, fast, but careful ... curves of 180 degrees with strong winds. Direction to Ye with an ups and downs with slopes of more than 15% to finish with the rise reigns to the viewpoint of the river. Rapid descent to Arrieta and then to Tahiche along 15-20km.

Later we went to Nazareth, one of the most feared areas for both the kilometers that already have the legs and the type of asphalt. Carretera de la Géria fast if the wind is tail, and the last stretch with favorable terrain to the T2 in Puerto del Carmen, where the large number of public pushes you to face the final marathon. "

Víctor del Corral → Race on foot

Map Ironman Lanzarote Walking Race

"Of the race circuit on foot of the IM of Lanzarote I would emphasize that it is a circuit to 3 turns, 1 long of 21kms and two more than half approximately.

The circuit runs entirely along the promenade and bike path, the ground is good but hard, the terrain is quite undulating in the first part and flatter in the second, the wind and heat always make an appearance, especially in the area from the airport (luckily it only happens once!).

Although it is a tough marathon in which it is important to get off the bike with the strength to face it with guarantees, when you finish you will not have that memory, but you will have all the people, an island in the street cheering you up, enjoy it! "
