Víctor del Corral will look for a new victory in Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote

700 athletes join one of the toughest IRONMAN 70.3 in the world

700 athletes have been registered, including the best professionals, who will compete in September's 24 at the 5 edition of the Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote, which for them is considered one of the toughest triathlon events in the world, due to the difficult struggle of athletes against wind and heat, between volcanic nature.

The distance of 1,9 kilometers of swimming takes place in the lagoon, in front of Club Santa, the athletes will swim a lap and then pass between the spectators ending the first transition of the race.

The bike circuit of 90 kilometers, is the second test where athletes will challenge the strong winds of the north of the island, especially in the impressive climb of 550 meters in "Tabayesco". The participants will enjoy wonderful views throughout the journey.

Finally, the stretch of the half marathon, which begins and ends at Club La Santa and consists of three laps of 7 kilometers, the athletes will run to the fishing village of La Santa, while enjoying the views of the sea and the volcanoes, under the sun of Lanzarote.

The competitors will be surrounded by the warmth of the expectant public throughout the race, thus making a lively way towards the goal to become "finishers" of the IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote.

There will be 35 qualifying places by age group, for the 70.3 Ironman 2017 world championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It should be noted the high participation of professional athletes.

A group of top-level athletes, including several IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 winners, will be part of this battle between wind and heat to achieve victory. Among the favorites stand out; the Spanish Víctor del Corral (winner here at 2013, 2º at 2014 and winner of IRONMAN from France 2016), German Thomas Hellriegel (IRONMAN 1997 World Champion and continues running as a professional to his 45 years old), the Italian Domenico Passuello (3º put here in 2013 and winner of the IRONMAN Taiwan 2015), the British Stephen Bayliss (IRONMAN double winner), The Belgian Kenneth Vandendriessche (winner of the Volcano 2016 triathlon) and the German Swen Sundberg (Winner IRONMAN Japan 2015).

Says the German Thomas Hellriegel:

"I love being in Club La Santa and training on the Island! The IRONMAN 70.3 is a perfect opportunity to run on this great island !, the sun, the wind, the mountains (including the famous climb to Tabayesco) and stay for a few days at Club La Santa, you can not ask for more! "

And the Spanish, Víctor del Corral:

"There is no doubt that the IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote is one of my favorite races and I always try to be there, with the difficulty of its routes, on that beautiful island, where I spend so many days a year and where I have enjoyed so many joys while competing "

The results among female participants are very unpredictable, with athletes of the caliber of Martina Dogana, Alice Hector, Lisa Hütthaler, among other:

This year, the IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote is also Middle Distance Canary Islands Championship, for which a hundred athletes will try to get the victory, among them, two who compete as professionals: Rayco Marrero Avero and Raul Lecuona.
