ASICS Superblast 3 Review: A Softer and More Responsive Super Trainer for Racking Up Miles

ASICS It reinforces its super trainer concept with the Superblast 3, a softer, lighter shoe with greater rebound designed for triathletes who accumulate volume on asphalt.

La ASICS Superblast 3 It's a road training shoe weighing 239 grams, with an 8mm drop and a new midsole featuring FF LEAP and FF BLAST PLUS, designed to offer more rebound, protection and dynamism on long runs and high-volume sessions.

ASICS has continued the legacy of one of its most distinctive shoes with a third version that further reinforces its super trainer profile. The Superblast 3 is neither a pure racing shoe nor a classic daily trainer.

It sits at a very interesting middle ground: a lot of stack height, a softer feel than the previous version, and a response that aims to make training kilometers more bearable.

For triathletes, this proposal makes perfect sense. Not every day is a race day, or a run with a carbon plate. Often, what's needed is a shoe that provides good leg protection, allows training through accumulated fatigue, and maintains a healthy stride when the session gets longer.

What does it offer the triathlete?

The Superblast 3 is a particularly good fit for triathletes who accumulate bulk and are looking for a shoe with plenty of cushioning but without feeling dull.

It's a very logical choice for long rides, sustained blocks, active recovery, and running after cycling, where a wide base, good protection, and a transition with some bounce are valued.

It also works as a main training shoe for those preparing for medium or long distances and who want to add kilometers in a way that is gentler on the muscles.

Product highlights

The big news is the FF LEAP foam, ASICS' lightest and most responsive material, inspired by the METASPEED family. It works alongside FF BLAST PLUS in a dual-layer construction that combines generous cushioning with less weight and a greater energy return.

Another important point is the new sole geometry, shaped like a trampoline, designed to improve energy return during takeoff.

The upper is also noticeably improved, offering a more comfortable fit and a more forgiving shape in the forefoot. All this in a high-stack shoe with a very low weight.

What the ASICS Superblast 3 has taught us

We tested the Superblast 3 on long runs, medium-paced sessions, fartlek, and post-bike transitions. From the very first kilometers, it conveys a very clear message: it's a shoe designed for running with plenty of protection, while maintaining a lively and comfortable stride.

The FF LEAP midsole offers a soft, cushioned feel, with good travel and progressive rebound that makes the miles fly by. Its ability to absorb impact and reduce accumulated fatigue is especially appreciated on long runs.

The upper is comfortable from the first use, with a good fit in the midfoot and no pressure points. Stability is well achieved for the high stack height, and the outsole performs reliably on asphalt.

Our opinion

The Superblast 3 is a well-focused evolution. It feels softer and more comfortable than its predecessor, making it a very pleasant shoe for building muscle mass. The new FF LEAP foam strikes a good balance: plenty of cushioning and protection without feeling dead.

It stands out for its lightness for its profile, its versatility, and that energetic feel that makes long training sessions more bearable. It's not the best model for those seeking a lot of firmness or an aggressive response at high speeds, but in its intended use (comfortable and protective training) it more than delivers.

Conclusions

The ASICS Superblast 3 reinforces its identity as a maximalist super trainer: light for its volume, comfortable and with enough bounce to turn long runs into a more dynamic and enjoyable experience.

For neutral triathletes who prioritize protection, high cushioning and comfort when racking up kilometers and training on asphalt, it is a very interesting option within the premium segment of ASICS.
