We tested the Poolmate2, the swimmers' clock

The new POOLMATE 2 in its new design includes the option of measuring distances not only in the pool but also in open water, of course a great advantage over its predecessor.

Nothing else see the Poolmate 2 the feeling is very positive, careful design and the quite large numbers that allow you to see them quickly in training.

Su configuration is very simple through the buttons with which it counts. In order for PoolMate to measure efficiently, it is necessary to include the data of the pool (meters), weight and the hand in which the watch is worn (right or left)

In case of using it for open water, an estimate of distance and speed is made based on the number of strokes, in this case it works as if it were a pedometer for the swimmers so it is necessary to swim a first stretch for the calibration that then The clock uses to adjust the following data in open water. When not having GPS it is necessary to previously configure the data that we mentioned before, since it makes the estimation with them. The positive side of this action is that It hardly has battery wear.

The measurement system is through a algorithm software which has been developed by engineers who process the signal of each stroke by obtaining information on each length, stroke, distance, speed and calorie consumption automatically, not being necessary to press another button to start a new length since he automatically detects it.

In an indoor pool it gives you the possibility to record each series and it works in pools of more than 15 meters in length.

It has a stroke efficiency data that calibrates according to this table measured by each 100 meters, and that helps you to optimize the workouts.

  • Less than 30 strokes - Excellent / Professional swimmer
  • 30-40 strokes - Very good
  • 40 - 50 strokes - Above average
  • 50 - 70 strokes - In the middle.

Other functionalities with which it counts and can be calibrated equally are the adjustment of the time, the alarm and the chrono

IN SUMMARY:

NEGATIVE:

- It does not detect a change in the stroke in the middle of a length, this change must always be done at the end of a length but without pressing any button.

- The buttons cannot be pressed underwater and it is recommended not to dive with it. However, it does not need to be pressed every turn as it is automatically detected.

- We have not found the option to save two profiles of swimmers. If there is a change of swimmer, it must be calibrated to the new data, in a quick and simple action.

POSITIVE:

- Optimal quality / price / performance

- Intuitive and carefully designed watch that you can use for the street.

- Gives the possibility of measuring in swimming pools and / or open waters

- It is very easy to configure to change from one swimmer to another

- It hardly has any battery drain and it can last up to 2 years with the battery it has. It does not need recharging. The measurement system is not by GPS (which uses more battery) but by its own software.
