1000 triathletes in Posadas

The town of Cordoba hosts this weekend the Andalusia Middle Distance Championship

 

 

One more year, and they are already 26 editions, posadas it becomes the epicenter of the summer triathlon, with an appointment that is marked in red in the summer calendar of this sport. This small Cordovan municipality turns over and takes to the streets to encourage the participants of one of the most traditional triathlons.

 

The appointment is double, for the third consecutive year, with the dispute of Triathlon Iron Caliphs and Calima Challenge Posadas. The first is in the distance sprint (750 meters swimming, 20 cycling and 5 running), while the second one is middle distance (swim 1,9 kms, pedal 90 kilometers by bike to finish running half marathon) and it will serve as Championship of Andalusia. The novelty in this 2014 is that both tests are held on the same day and practically simultaneously.

 

The participants of the Calima will go to the 8h30 of the Pantano de la Breña, in Hornachuelos. An hour and a half later, at the 10, the departure of the Iron Caliphs will take place. The winner is expected to arrive at the 11 in the morning, while the 12h25 is expected to appear first in the challenge.

 

In the list of favorites of Triathlon Iron Caliphs tothey seem in male category Pedro Serrano (winner of the last two editions), Samer Ali-Saad (winner of the Andalusian Triathlon Circuit and Andalusian Sprint Triathlon Champion last season) and Germán Rodríguez. In the female category, the aspirants to victory are Rocío Molas, Natalia Fischer y Mariola Verdejo (winner of the Andalusian Triathlon Circuit last season).

 

In turn, the Calima Challenge Posadas It has in Daniel Pérez Hidalgo, Ramón Valles, Javier Iglesias, Sergio Tejero, Juan Salvador Díaz y José María Merchán to your list of strong men. The current Andalusian champion of Media Distancia, Granada Elena Aguilar, will seek to validate its title, with María Jesús Sierra Barroso (winner of the Iberman of Media Distancia) and Beatriz Jiménez trying to make things difficult.

 

This triathlon will be special for Gregorio Martín Pazo, who competes at home, as he is from Posadas. Last year he was in the Top 10: "Encourage my countrymen from Posadas to come to the triathlon on Sunday, because it is a spectacle. A test with a lot of prestige, because the people of my town turn around and encourage a lot. I'm looking forward to it and, for me, it's not just any test, so I'll give it my all. "

 

Last year, the Califas de Hierro Triathlon in the men's category was won by Pedro Miguel Serrano. In the female category, the victory went to Miriam Casillas. While the Calima Desafío Posadas, which was the Spanish Championship, was for Peru Alfaro in boys and Gurutze Frades in girls.

 

This small Cordovan town, with a little more than 7.000 inhabitants, increases its population in a single day, with the presence of almost a thousand participants, plus their companions. The 18% of those registered are from the province, while the rest come from outside, with the consequent economic impact that it has on the municipality in terms of overnight stays and meals. Outstanding is the international presence, with an 6% of the triathletes that will take the start coming from outside our borders.

 

The Posadas Triathlon will be a party not only for Sports, but also for the large number of parallel activities that will take place on Saturday.
