1.000 triathletes meet this weekend at the MTRI Alicante
The city of Alicante is preparing to receive nearly 1.000 triathletes this weekend in the first test of the circuit Mediterranean Triathlon (MTRI) 2024.
This event, which will take place in three venues throughout the year (Alicante, Castellón and Valencia), has expanded its presence in the Valencian Community with the inclusion of a duathlon event in Valencia last January.
On Friday, May 16 at 17 p.m., Alicante Town Hall Square will be transformed into a hive of activity with the opening of the expo area and the delivery of bibs.
This event will continue until Sunday the 19th at 14 p.m., when the weekend will close with the awards ceremony for the Olympic distance.

The competition will have two key areas: the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where the bib distribution will be located, the expo area, the finish line and the post finish line; and Paseo de Gómiz – Playa del Postiguet, where the transition box and swimming exits will be located.
On Friday, the delivery of numbers will last until 20 p.m., and the in-person briefing at 19 p.m. in the same square will provide participants with all the necessary information for the three distances.
On Saturday, at 9 a.m., the supersprint and sprint competitions will begin, while on Sunday, at 8:15 a.m., the Olympic distance test will begin.
On this first day, 600 triathletes will participate, while 400 will compete in the Olympic distance on Sunday.
It should be noted that 36 of them will do so in the Olympic modality in pairs, a demanding format that requires excellent management of rhythms and coordination between partners.
The MTRI format continues to attract significant female participation, with 26,7% women registered, especially in the supersprint and sprint distances, both individually and in pairs.
