25 triathletes "will stick out their tongues at ALS" at the IRONMAN Lanzarote
El Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote to be held this weekend with about 800 participants, it will also feature an initiative to raise funds against ALS, "Stick your tongue out at ALS"
Where they have called Ironman against ALS, 25 athletes will try to reach the goal in one of the toughest IRONMAN in the world with the aim of raising funds and giving visibility to this disease.
How did the challenge arise?
Miguel Angel Roldan, suffering from ALS diagnosed in 2018 is the creator of this initiative and aims to collaborate in the search for a cure for this disease by giving visibility and providing financial resources to research projects (in 2020 the association donated more than 100.000 euros).
Miguel Ángel cannot perform triathlon due to the advance of the disease, but he set himself this challenge of leading a team of 25 triathletes to complete the IRONMAN Lanzarote.
They have chosen this test since it was the triathlon where Mikel debuted in 2008 and it is a special triathlon for him and for so many triathletes who have contested it.
What is ALS?
La Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive disease of the nervous system that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control.
ALS is often called Lou Gehrig's disease, after the baseball player who was diagnosed with the disease.
The person who is going to find the cure for ALS has already been born, and is closer than we think….
The more funding, the faster it will be, and for this reason we try to give more visibility and demand that more resources be provided for research. 25 athletes led by Miguel Ángel Roldán will shout together from the IRONMAN DE LANZAROTE “INVESTIGATION = SOLUTION”.
