On September 27 a new edition of the Challenge Madrid, where this year there will be many new features,

The organization published shortly after finishing the last edition, a series of measures to take, after listening to the triathletes and with the desire to continue improving and offering the best competition for athletes.

Among the changes we highlight:

  • The dangerous sections of the M501 are suppressed
  • The numbers will be collected at the official hotel
  • On Sunday you can check the bike
  • As in 2019, the test will have two distances, the middle distance test and the Full distance.

The swimming

Swimming will take place at the Virgen de la Nueva Beach, also known as "Madrid beach", which in 2018 was declared a Blue Flag, a badge that requires compliance with standards on water quality, safety, provision of general services and environmental management. It is the first inland beach with a blue flag in the Community of Madrid.

The distance to be covered by triathletes in the San Juan reservoir in San Martín de Valdeiglesias will be 3.800 meters. In this facility, the T1 will be mounted, a transitional place from where the test will start on a bicycle.

Test location: San Juan reservoir, Virgen Nueva beach, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, 3.800 meters.

180KM CYCLING

The bicycle test will be 180 km long and will take place in the Sierra Oeste where the mountainous terrain predominates, giving way to other lower areas through which the Alberche and Perales rivers flow. The variety of landscapes, as well as the relief and the plant species that can be observed, are very valuable since this region runs between 500 and 1500 meters of altitude.

The first part of the bicycle circuit runs between the last foothills of the Sierra del Guadarrama and the first elevations of the Sierra de Gredos, in the extreme southwest of the region. The predominant vegetation in this region is the coniferous forests, whose most outstanding species is the stone pine.

Holm oaks, cork oaks, junipers, melojos and chestnuts also grow on its slopes, forming a typical area of the Mediterranean forest. The second part will approach Madrid passing through different towns until reaching the capital, entering through the Casa de Campo where the T2 transition place will be located, from where the Marathon race will start.

Place of the test: San Juan reservoir, Virgen Nueva beach, San Martín de Valdeiglesias-Casa de Campo, Madrid 180 km.

The tour in the center will be 6 laps that runs mainly through the Calle Mayor, the Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Palace, Bailen Street, the Gran Vía de San Francisco el Grande.

At its end, on the last lap, the foot race will enter Puerta del Sol for its arrival at “Km 0”, where the Goal will be located.
