275 days for the Challenge Madrid

On September 27 a new edition of the Challenge Madrid, where this year there will be many new features,

The organization published shortly after finishing the last edition, a series of measures to take, after listening to triathletes and with the desire to continue improving and offer the best competition for athletes.

Among the changes we highlight:

  • Swimming changes location
  • The dangerous sections of the M501 are suppressed
  • The numbers will be collected at the official hotel
  • On Sunday you can check your bike
  • As in 2019, the test will have two distances, the medium distance test and the Full distance.

The swimming

The swimming will take place at the Playa de la Virgen de la Nueva, also known as "the beach of Madrid", which in 2018 was declared a Blue Flag, a mark that requires compliance with regulations on water quality, safety, provision of general services and environmental management. It is the first inland beach with a blue flag in the Community of Madrid.

The distance to be traveled by triathletes in the San Juan Swamp in San Martín de Valdeiglesias will be 3.800 meters. In this installation, the T1 will be mounted, a transition place from where the test will take place by bicycle.

Place of the test: Pantano de San Juan, Playa de la Virgen Nueva, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, 3.800 meters.

180KM CYCLING

The bike test will be 180 km and will be developed by the Sierra Oeste where the mountain relief predominates that gives way to other lower areas through which the Alberche and Perales rivers run. The variety of landscapes, as well as the relief and the vegetal species that can be observed, are very valuable since this region runs between 500 and 1500 meters of altitude.

The first part of the bicycle circuit runs between the last foothills of the Sierra del Guadarrama and the first elevations of the Sierra de Gredos, in the extreme southwest of the region. The predominant vegetation in this region is coniferous forests, the most prominent species of which is the stone pine.

Holm oaks, cork oaks, junipers, melojos and chestnut trees also grow on its slopes, forming a typical landscape of the Mediterranean forest. The second part will approach Madrid, passing through different towns until arriving at the capital, entering through the Casa de Campo where T2 will be located, the transition place from where the Marathon test will start.

Place of the test: Pantano de San Juan, Playa de la Virgen Nueva, San Martín de Valdeiglesias-Casa de Campo, Madrid 180 km.

42KM FOOT RACE

After leaving the bicycle in T2, they will cross the Casa de Campo towards the Palacio de Vargas heading to Madrid Rio where they will make a turn to run towards Segovia street and return to cross the Puente del Rey making another turn towards Segovia street before going up to the downtown area through the Cuesta de la Vega and that is where they will have to do the kilometers of the race on foot.

The tour in the center will be 6 laps that runs mainly through Calle Mayor, La Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Palace, Bailen Street, the Gran Vía of San Francisco el Grande.

In its final, on the last lap, the race on foot will enter the Puerta del Sol for its arrival at "Km 0", where the Meta will be located.

Place of the test: Casa de Campo, Madrid-Puerta del Sol, Madrid, 42,195 Km.
