Alejandro Santamaría at the 4ª Titan Desert stage: "Day by day in the titan's camp"

Life in the camp is also hard, you have to spend hours with little to do. We are isolated, it is difficult to take a signal to telephone and only the press and the privileged have Internet.

The itinerant camp settles in the middle of the desert and in the black cloth haimas attached to each other to accommodate the participating 600. Each haima is shared by 3, some are friends but others have been placed at random. In them there is the right space for the 3 mattresses that the organization puts on and the walls are made of fabric so that any noise is heard. The nights are short and when the first 4 get up the little noise they can make is enough to wake up the rest. And if not every morning at the 6h00 a music organization sounds to wake up everyone.

Time passes quickly in the morning. Queue in the common bathrooms, have a quick breakfast and prepare the suitcase to leave it in the trucks that go to the next camp where we will pick it up at the finish line. After passing the signature control and putting on sunscreen with the maximum possible protection, luckily one of the sponsors is a sunscreen brand. We fill the cans and ready to take the departure at 8:00.

When you reach the goal, you repeat the same routine every day. Leave the bike, take the suitcase and settle in the haima, shower and eat. Always the same.

The only water they give for free is the water they give in the morning and the glasses that you can drink at the finish line or at the refreshment stations. Also powerade.

A Haima in the TITAN Desert

Everything else has to be paid for and is not included in the 2000 plus euros that the registration fee may cost. No doubt this is one of the biggest criticisms of the organization because the discomforts are part of the adventure and are understandable. After eating there is a large haima to look for a place on the ground, since in the small haimas the temperature at noon is unbearable.

The afternoon is slow, spend hours drinking until dinner time, daily brifing and bed every day more tired and more sleepy.
