Germany wins the Mixed Relay Triathlon in Paris in the sprint
In a finale full of emotion and adrenaline, the German team took the gold medal in the mixed relay Triathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games held today.
Laura Lindemann was the heroine of the day, taking victory in a final sprint over the Alexandre III bridge, leaving the United States and Great Britain behind.
First relay
The race started with a great performance by the Spanish Alberto González García leading the swim. However, a penalty in this segment neutralized this advantage, allowing Alex Yee of Great Britain and Tim hellwig from Germany, recover ground in the cycling section.
Despite some setbacks, including a collision between Pierre Le Corre y Hayden Wilde which harmed France, Germany and Great Britain were ahead in the first transition.
Second relay
The second relay presented an intense rivalry between Georgia Taylor-Brown of Great Britain and Lisa Tertsch from Germany. Taylor-Brown began her segment with a four-second lead, but Tertsch soon closed the gap.
The Brit maintained the lead for much of the bike segment, but Tertsch demonstrated her prowess on the run, catching and passing Taylor-Brown on the descent into the transition zone.
Third relay
In the third stage, Lasse Luhrs from Germany and Samuel Dickinson from Great Britain took over. Dickinson managed to overtake Luhrs quickly, however, he was able to keep up with him and they managed to distance themselves from the rest of the competitors.
Germany and Great Britain managed to maintain a lead at the end of the segment, with the United States and Switzerland trailing behind.
Final relay
The final relay was a demonstration of resistance and strategy. Laura Lindemann from Germany, Taylor Knibb from the United States and Beth Potter of Great Britain competed head to head.
Potter began his relay with a slight lead after an outstanding swim, but Knibb quickly closed the gap in the bike leg, putting the United States back in the medal fight.
In the last transition, Lindemann showed his strength in the running race, overtaking Potter and Knibb.
With a final sprint over the Alexandre III Bridge, Lindemann secured victory for Germany. Taylor Knibb won the silver medal for the United States after a close photo finish, leaving Great Britain with the bronze.
Spain finally was ninth in the test
