Ander Okamika third in the first stage of the Vuelta a Andalucía

It was his best result as a professional

former triathlete Ander Okamina He has achieved his best result as a professional cyclist, with a third place in the return to Andalusia.

He has achieved it in the first stage of the test where he got into a breakaway that helped him reach the sprint in an exciting final.

"On paper, it seemed very unlikely that we could make it from the breakaway. But with the motivation of the first port, where we managed almost 15 minutes, we have begun to believe it.

In the group there was understanding, we have collaborated, with 80 kilometers to go they have sung us 6 minutes and it has been a real boost of morale.

In the last port, everyone has already played their tricks. I felt fine, although a little tired. But as the stage passed I felt better and seeing myself in the race I gained confidence.

I think I was one of the strongest in the breakaway but I lacked cold blood, in the end it's one of the first times I've seen myself in these situations of fighting for victory.

But I'll take third place. We're fine and I'm sure we're going to do a good job in the rest of the race".

Today, the second stage

This Thursday, the runners will compete for just over 150 kilometers between Archidona and Alcalá la Real. 5 scoring climbs and a final in constant ascent will decide the winner of the day.
