Spaniard Antonio Arimany, New President of World Triathlon

He succeeds Marisol Casado after the World Triathlon Congress

At a historic moment for international triathlon, Antonio Fernandez Arimany has been elected president of World triathlon during 37th Congress of the world governing body of sport, held in the Malaga city of Torremolinos.

With strong support from the 64,29% of the votes, Arimany succeeds Marisol Married, who headed the organization for fifteen years.

Arimany's election not only marks a change of leadership, but also a reaffirmation of the Spanish influence in international triathlon.

The voting process was clear from the start, with 90 votes supporting Arimany against the 29 votes of British Ian Howard, 19 votes from Danish Mads freund and 2 votes Hungarian Tamás Toth.

A Commitment to Continuity and Growth

In his acceptance speech, Antonio Arimany He highlighted the importance of continuing Marisol Casado's legacy, but also of advancing the evolution of global triathlon.

For its part, José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, underlined the achievement that Arimany's election represents: “Antonio now becomes the only Spanish president at the head of an International Olympic Federation, and that speaks to how difficult it is to reach a position like this.

I am pleased that another Spaniard is continuing the work that Marisol Casado started fifteen years ago.".

The Greatest Spanish Representation in the History of Triathlon

The Congress in Torremolinos Not only has it brought good news with the election of Arimany, but it has also meant a significant increase in Spanish representation in the committees and commissions of World triathlon.

Jorge Garcia y Alicia García were the most voted members for the Technical and Credentials Committees, respectively, while Samuel García joins the Paratriathlon and Luis Coira to the Technical Committee.

Approval of the 2025 World Triathlon International Calendar

During the Congress the following was also approved: calendar of the 2025 season, a program that promises to attract both athletes and fans from around the world.

The season of World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) will begin in Abu Dhabi day 14 and 15 February, a city known for its history as a host of top-level events. In addition to the individual event, a World Mixed Relay Series the same weekend.

El WTCS will continue in Yokohama el May 17, followed by a new stop in Sardinia, Italy, at the end of May, with the specific location to be announced shortly.

Hamburg will be the scene, in July, of another stage of the WTCS and the Mixed Relay World Championship, while the city of Carlsbad, in the Czech Republic, will debut as the venue for the WTCS in September.

The final of the championship will be held in Wollongong, Australia, from the October 15th to 19th, marking a long-awaited return of the championship to Australian soil for the first time since 2018.
