Banyoles prepares to welcome 1.500 triathletes
The Catalan town of Banyoles will once again host an international triathlon event this weekend, welcoming 1.500 triathletes from 30 countries.
From September 6 to 9, there will be three major events: the European Youth Festival, Spanish Olympic Distance Triathlon Championshipoh he XXXVIII Triatló de Catalunya.
The European Youth Festival will bring together the young promises of triathlon, who will compete in exciting individual and mixed relay races.
The Spanish Olympic distance Triathlon Championship will attract the national elite, who will seek to win the title in this important event of the season.
Finally, the Triatló de Catalunya, with its long history, will offer a competition open to triathletes of all levels.
International participation will be strong, with a total of 22 countries forming teams for the exciting European Youth Festival Mixed Relay.
Schedule
The competitions will start on Friday 6th September with the semi-finals of the European Youth Festival.
Saturday 7th will be an intense day, with the individual finals of the Youth Festival, the races of the Spanish Championship in Junior and Youth categories, and the competition of the Spanish Triathlon Championship in Olympic distance and the Triathlon of Catalonia.
The weekend will close on Sunday 8th with the Youth Festival Mixed Relay and the long-awaited elite events of the Spanish Olympic distance Championship.
Banyoles 2023: a precedent of success
Last year, Banyoles also hosted important triathlon competitions, including the European Youth Championship and the Spanish Club and Relay Triathlon Championships.
On that occasion, Fanni Szalai (Hungary) and Tristan Douche (France) were crowned champions of the Youth Festival, while France took victory in the Mixed Relay. In the national events, the Diablillos de Rivas women's team and the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial men's team dominated the club competition, with the latter also winning the Mixed Relay.
At the 2023 Spanish Olympic Distance Triathlon Championship, held in A Coruña, María Casals and David Castro were proclaimed national champions.
