Camilla Pedersen and Sylvain Sudrie win in the first edition of the Ironman 70.3 Barcelona

The beach of Calella awaited the more than 1600 triathletes who were preparing to face the inaugural edition of the Ironman 70.3 Barcelona, ​​a date in which Camilla Pedersen and Sylvain Sudrie have risen with the triumph after achieving extraordinary performances on a dream circuit .

 

 

Those in charge of opening the competition to the 7 in the morning were the participants in the male elite category. Rasmus Petraeus was the first to complete the first swim. After him, Spaniard Santi Pellejero and Tom Vander Hoogerstraete were the next to lead the way to the first transition.

 

Already in the cycling sector, the British Will Clarke led the competition at the beginning. Although very soon Sylvain Sudrie showed its superiority placing itself in head in the first instants of the sector; with only Jan Van Berkel being able to follow his trail through the spectacular scenery of the Montseny Natural Park. Both would maintain an exciting duel throughout this segment, which stood out for its technical hardness.

 

Behind, a group of three with New Zealander Terenzo Bozzone, trying to hunt down the front duo. Somewhat behind, four minutes away, Víctor del Corral was losing a few valuable seconds; the local triathlete was followed by Richard Calle a few meters away.

 

The distances would increase and Sudrie and Van Berkel would enter together in the second transition. From the beginning of the running sector the Frenchman would be marking distances, getting an advantage of 30 seconds in the first bars. After them, Bozzone and Clarke were the following; while a surprising Bruno Pais was fifth and Markus Farchbach sixth.

 

During the race on foot, the fight for the second and third place was intense, with constant changes between the first six contenders. While the best Spaniard, Víctor del Corral was climbing positions and occupies seventh place. Bozzone pressed in an arduous battle to win the podium positions.

 

Finally, Sudrie managed to maintain its advantage, while several rivals were falling behind, as a result of the wear especially made in the cycling segment. After him, the Briton Clarke went up to an impressive second place; and the Portuguese country towards the own getting the bronze medal.

 

As for the Spaniards in the field, Víctor del Corral crossed the finish line in fifth place. For his part, Raúl Amatriain entered tenth, Richard Calle 11ª and Egoitz Zalacaín, 15º (more results soon).

 

The Danish was the real protagonist, demonstrating a huge domain from the early stages of the competition. Pedersen was ahead of the water, with only 9 seconds ahead of Katja Konschak, and was preparing to make the solo cycling segment. While Diana Reisler, a triathlete based in Mallorca, was in third place.

 

It was from then on that the Danish began to consolidate its leadership, extending its income in the course of this cyclist segment, in which it remained in head alone without any rival that threatened its leadership. Behind, the German Diana Reisler and Katja Konschak disputed the remaining places on the podium. Arrived on foot, Pedersen was intractable, conserving and increasing his advantage in each stride to finally cross the finish line comfortably and proclaim himself winner in his return to Calella.

 

Konschak could overcome his compatriot Reisler to hang the silver medal. While Reisler would qualify in third position, achieving the bronze medal with a final time of 4: 59: 13. On the other hand Helena Herrero, the only Spanish representative in the appointment, would be classified in fifth position; stopping the time in 5: 07: 52.
